Mocha gets his nails trimmed when I look down and think, "Hmm, his nails are getting long". It's probably about every couple of months. I worked on conditioning him for me to do his nails when he was a puppy. I would do "this little piggy" on each toe. But since he had his dew claws removed, there's no little piggy that went wee wee wee all the way home

He gets bathed when he's too muddy to wipe down with a towel or he decides to hop in the shower. He just doesn't need a bath (aka he doesn't stink).

I get nervous trimming his nails and would rather take him to have it done. It gives us both an outing and him some special treats.

As far as crating together, we only have Mocha, but I don't think there is a crate big enough that would house Mocha and another dog. So, when we get another dog down the road, we get another crate, too.

I don't look or follow the rescues, either. I know I can't save them all and right now Mocha and Duchess (our cat) are enough. It would just break my heart.

Mardi's nails grow so darn fast and being older and not as mobile, I dremel hers about once a week. Ears get done about every other week. Archie gets his nails done at PetsMart, about an every 2-3 week trip. He wears his down more on his own.

Reminds me of a funny occurrence. Bandit and Melody piled into the crate together. Had the crate up for the first few days when a new furkid joins the family. They didn't stay in long but showed that they were comfortable with being crated and with each other. I would not crate two down together with the door closed.

You've hit a soft spot in my heart. Every time I see or hear about a senior in need I'm trying to figure out how to talk DH into another. Oh how I wish but to do justice to Mardi and Archie, they are all I can handle right now.

    1. I do Oban`s about once a week. Teddy`s were never done, he was an outside dog and he wore them down on the stones where he was tied. Jet needed hers done about once a month. Jet and Oban walk in the same places, it`s just his seem to grow out much more quickly.

I only bath when the dog has rolled in something stinky or there`s tenacious mud that just won`t let go. I don`t like them to smell really good after, it seems artificial and a dog`s nose is so sensitive. Plus the nice smelling shampoos are usually the ones the bugs like.

    2. I don`t use a crate but if I did they`d definitely be in separate ones.

    3. My OH has arrived home several times to me saying, Μ think we have a new dog, it followed me.` But we``ve found the owner every time. He`s been ok with it each time. At one time he was quite sure he wanted us to get a Jack Russell Terrorist. It was me who vetoed it.

    1. Bruce's nail need to be done once per week. Sophie every 2-3 weeks.

    2. Sophie isn't crated at all in the house. Bruce has his own. They do share a crate in the car. Since there is always someone in the car with them, I don't worry about it.

    3. Pretty much always have had two dogs. I seriously doubt I'd ever do more than that.

I don't cut or trim Luna's nails, they wear down on their own. I will cut her dewclaw once in a blue moon, whenever it looks long, but the vet usually clips it for me whenever she's in.

Luna gets a bath when she is especially disgusting, but she swims so much it never seems to matter. I always towel her off after she rolls in mud but she gets a bath a few times a year, maybe once every 3 months? I'd like to bathe her less, but you all here know how disgusting she likes to get... ;-)

Literally laughed out loud on that one.
