    Just Curious

Couple of unrelated questions that I am just curious about:

    1. I took Oliver into the groomers today to get his nails clipped, his ears cleaned, brushed out, and a bath. He smells so GOOD!! that I am going to keep having the groomer do it since I don't want to do it myself. How often do you clip your dog's nails?

    2. If you get another dog and they are already crated trained, do you put both your dogs (old and new) in the same crate when you first bring the new one home or do you keep them in separate crates?

2 is purely hypothetical. I have a problem where I look at the rescues and animal shelters Facebook pages that are in our area and some of those babies are sooooo cute! My husband would literally murder me if I got another dog and I would probably go insane as well.
“Don't allow your happiness to be interrupted by overly judgmental people. The problem is not you, because even if you do good all the time, they would still find a way to judge you wrongly.”

I dremmel my dogs' nails about every other week. I bathe them rarely but they swim a lot and if needed I hose them down. I clean their ears as needed. Since going from kibble to raw, this is also a rarity.

It's not advised to put two dogs into one crate. It can be dangerous, even playing.

I have two dogs and recently fostered a couple (separately). After that experience, I have absolutely zero desire for a third dog!

Zoey bites her nails, she hasn't had her nails cut in 5 years, she is weird. I do the rest of the dogs as well as do all the grooming. I have never cleaned any of there ears and they get bathed as needed. Zoey gets maybe 2 baths a year, the rest more often of course

2 dogs should never be in the same crate, maybe very young puppies for a little nap or something but never older dogs

I look at craigslist, rescues, and the shelters everyday. I make myself very upset all the time

Never put two dogs in the same crate, even if they get along great.

Cabo's nails grow super fast, I dremel them at least once a week. I do them myself, he is so dog reactive there is no way I'd take him to a groomer. Tux's nails grow super slow. I take him to Petsmart just to have them dremeled, maybe once a month. I clean their ears weekly with the purple potion stuff, as they are both prone to ear problems if I don't. I don't really bathe them, just hose them off if they get dirty, and Tux gets in the tub a few times a month for a good rinse off b/c of his allergies, more often during allergy season.

My husband has a chocolate lab, I take care of most things for her as well, so we are already a three dog household. And he has said no more dogs until one of ours goes. I have often thought I would love to foster or bring home another, but realistically I could not devote enough time to them each if I added another.

Do not crate the dogs together as a rule. Each dog deserves their own quite space, it's not fair and risky to stick them together. For short periods if the dogs know each other very well that's one thing (I have done it) but not for dogs getting to know each other, not regularly and not for long periods.

Nails - depends on the dog and surface tehy walk on. My lab didn't used to need it often, every 4 months amybe. My Penny's need to be done every two weeks or so but I get lazy. I do get Rocky's done by someone else as I can't do them, they are huge adn black.
    ears as needed
teeth - i should do it more often. once a week maybe.

I do their nails when I think of it, probably every 3-4 weeks. Clean their ears next to never, bathe them in the summer after we go to the beach and they get a bath before coming home from the kennel if they've been boarded. So usually they do not smell like anything but unadulterated dog.

I do not put them in the same crate for any reason. Chase is 8 years old so if I only have one crate available, Lark is in the crate, Chase is out, because Lark will get up on the sofa, tear up the box of tissues, chew on any ponytail holders left on the end table, and then go looking for trouble. We have 2 regular crates set up in the house but Lark is usually the only one crated. If I'm home and leave the crate door open, Chase goes in all the time for a rest as long as Lark is not in there. Additionally, we have 2 lightweight collapsible travel crates because Chase loves being in one so much that he is happier in unfamiliar places if he has a crate to go into.

I don't look at pets on Petfinder or Craigslist or anyplace else if I'm not actively looking for a new pet. My cousin, who lives in another state, posts pictures of cats and dogs nearly every single day from a local animal shelter near her. I've considered unfriending her so I do not have to see all those sad, sad faces.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

you can put them to "unfollow" so you are still "friends" but that stuff won't hit your newsfeed. I do this to people who post awful pictures of abused aand dead animals. I don't need to see that. But i don't want to necessarily unfriend them as they are rescue contacts I need.

I trim them maybe twice a year or so. He wears them down on his own. I always make sure the dew claws are nice and short though. They sometimes require more work. If I notice his ears are really waxy or something odd I will clean them myself...but maybe once or twice a year. I brush his coat with a bristle brush to help spread the natural oils throughout his coat maybe once a month or sometimes longer. I also don't bath him. Just hose him off if required, or wash him with a wash cloth if his really muddy. In the summer he swims or I can just hose him off in the back yard.

    Always keep dogs separated.

OOOO agree with hiding those things from your news feed. One thing I've learnt from my experience and friends that foster etc. is...as bad as this sounds...you can't save them all. Unfortunately this is just something I've had to deal with. I will continue to do all that I can...but for myself, I can't put that on my shoulders.
