I use Salmon oil for my boy and he's done great on it! Coat has come in much better and glossier. He use to get dry flaky skin from constantly being in dirty water out hunting....and this oil has helped a ton....mines not grizzly brand but it's pure salmon oil I use about 2 table spoons to his 5-6 cups a day....what your dealing with sounds more like a allergy thou

I have it and use it for 4 month old Rocky. he has dandruff and the vet recommended fish oil instead of olive because of omega in it.
It will soften stool and may increase the need to go. I started at dinner and changed to breakfast because of that.
Been 3 weeks now and haven't seen any difference in the dandruff but I don't think it can do any harm.
(picture to come when I figure out how) LOL

When Bruce arrived I noticed he was constantly scratching and biting at his self. He had peed in the travel crate, and had it all over him. I bathed him, checked him for fleas or other skin issues and saw nothing. I had already scheduled a vet appointment for the day after his arrival, and while we were in the room, he's still scratching and seemed all itchy. The vet tech got the flea comb out and ran it though his fur, finding nothing. My vet checked him over, found nothing, and said it may have just been the stress of the flight, new home etc. For the first 6 or 7 months Bruce did scratch and bite at his self a lot. Way more than I would consider normal. I did ask my vet about it during a visit for another matter, and he felt it was most like some kind of nervous habit, as there were no skin issues what so ever. He's now 10 months, and it's pretty much stopped.

With all that being said, I think that Salmon oil is generally a good product. I feed salmon in the rotation of food, and I also get salmon scraps from work that I give to the dogs a couple times per week.

We're having the same issues with itching over here with our five month old girl (who looks so much like your little guy from the side!). Please keep us posted if the salmon oil helps.

I have noticed that once puppies and kittens get the co-ordination and ability to scratch that they all of a sudden scratch a lot. Have they been in tormented itchiness all along and unable to address it? Or is it, they can so they do, it's a novelty? Dunno, but I do notice that happens at a much younger age than Oliver is.

Oban always had a coarse, dry coat but I waited till he was nearly 2 before beginning EFA supplements. Noticed a difference in about a week. He wasn't scratching, it's just his coat was harsh.

Also, if you introduced a collar recently, that can cause "itching". If you are going to change foods like you mentioned, my recommendation would be to make sure there is no chicken in it at all. Have you talked to the breeder about if their dogs have any food sensitivities? Or if you bathe the dog frequently, you might no be rinsing the soap off well enough.
