Is it too late to crate

Untill now the laundry room has been Mollys room. I have been using a baby gate. Tonight she got excited when a friend came ove and she jumped right over it. Now I am a bit concerned that if and when I leave she knows she can jump over and have free access of the house. Is it too late to get a crate? if not what size? How many doors do you like on your crates? Molly is almost 7 months and 43 lbs.

Do you think it is risky for me to leave home for longer periods since she jumped over the gate?

Never too late to learn to crate!

Luna's is a 42 and it is very roomy for her. She's 60 pounds. Since we suspect Molly has a little Newf in her (I think), I would get a 42. It has only one door, I don't need 2.

Honestly, I would get a camera (like D Link or Dropcam) so you can watch her when you're not home, especially with the baby gate jumping incident.

she is adorable! It is never too late to crate train. Just start slow and get a good quality crate so she can not try to escape and hurt herself. (that is wire crates). Otherwise get a vari kennel crate. (airline style)

Wire crate can come with a front and side door which is great depending on where you need to put it in your house.

You should not have trouble crate training sweet Molly. Make it a positive experience, treats and fun. Mocha is a big boy at 108 pounds so we have a 48 inch kennel for him.

Have you looked into buying a taller gate? I have one of these for Chopper. He stays in a separate room also.

I think a taller gate will work. Latte has such a tall gate that she won't be able to jump when she is fully grown.

WE made our own gates. About 42 inches high and much more sturdy. I should say the OH made them. We used open door crate within a securely gated room or pen. A dog who has learned to jump might need higher.

Crate is the best. It also prepares them if they ever need to overnight at a vet's or kennel. If I put Anthony in a gated room he'd eat the molding and Sheetrock. -image-jpgStella is in a 42 and Anthony the next size up.

PS: to Doubledip's point, this is a photo from a cam off my iPhone.
