Advice! Didn't know getting a puppy at 6 weeks is too early!

We recently got or puppy Baloo at 6 weeks. He will be two months on June 6. He is doing well so far, eating his food, enjoys being played with and spending a lot of time with me. He met a 10 month Pomeranian the other day and they played well-he found his bark then.

I am just worried that we got him too early and if there is any advice now that he is with me. What should I look out for, when should the vaccinations start?

      Thank you for your help

You need to follow the protocols in your country. Call a vet. While in the USA, it's mostly illegal to sell a puppy before 8 weeks, we get a lot of folks from India on this board, and 6 weeks is common there. I don't know what illnesses are in your country etc. Call a vet and they'll help you get set up.

      Hello and Welcome!

JenC has given you excellent advice. Most important is having your pup checked by a vet and getting appropriate vaccinations. Socialization is also important, not only with other dogs but with day to day situations.

      Congratulations!

For years puppies were leaving their breeders between the ages of 6 - 8 weeks old; the laws requiring breeders to not allow adoption until 8 weeks of age are relatively new. In 2006 there were only 18 states with laws that required puppies be 8 weeks (and not all of the specified that age but stated that "whichever came first" full weaning or 8 weeks of age was the "rule".

What's done is done and it sounds like your puppy is doing well; vaccinations and socialization are the most important things to do now along with simple training….

Enjoy your puppy…before long, he'll be huge!
