most problems in life are caused by intact males! testosterone is not a hormone out to do good in the world! I tell people neuter them at 9 10 months once the testicles drop after that testosterone begins surging through them! the hormone has a huge effect on behavior especially in a group setting I won't put up with it if you do it at that age it preserves the sweet non testosterone driven stage

-fullsizerender-12-jpgmy 1st one was the most mellow and I never saw any signs of testoteron surge you mention so I couldn't even begin to understand what your talking about,I never took him for any type of training and he listened very well for me,and my family, you must have had a crazy one,I brought him to socialize at the park with other dogs every weekend and he was he one that usually got the worst end of the deal when ruffing aound and like I said he wasn't nuetered so again I don't understand what your talking about, and if this is the sweet none testosterone age ,I'll wait,he's jumping and nipping now,and i'm not sure my dogs well being and longevity as i've read by research and have expierienced first hand is worth1 year of patience ,even if that were to occur

Why would you neuter before the growth plates close and puppy has a chance to mature properly? I am not sure if uou are a breeder, please forgive my ignorance, but none of the responsible breeders *I* have talked to encourage neutering that early. I would prefer to wait as long as possible if I ever neuter again. My personal experience has been very positive doing it this way.

I have an intact 9 year old male. Behavioural issues are managed with training, not neutering, IMO.

I have already cancelled the nuetering after reading about it,he is 6 months old and it makes sence to wait,I have an agreement with my breeder to get him fixed, but I don't believe it says when.I think people just rush into it upon the vets recommendation and I myself have been guilty of this with my previous 2 labs so this one I will make a more informed decision,at 6 months old do you really know the dogs personality? You haven't even let the dog mature and your altering him for life,if you have a hyperactive kid do you bring him to the doctor and say he needs a vasectomy that will calm him down would you do that?-img_5660-jpg

My breeder's contract says no earlier than 14 months, and she would prefer me to wait until 18 months, and actually the vet who knows me now did not push me on the early spay and neuter thing and suggested 2 years would be best as he is going to hopefully be an agility Performance dog. I guess vets have different rules for different people as they didn't stop my brother spaying his girl at 6 months (I lectured my brother as much as he would tolerate on this, but it was falling on deaf ears).

I feel it is best to wait until your pup has fully matured...between 18-24 months old. That's what I would do.

So glad you are waiting!! Bacon is intact and will be 2 in September. We have had no behavioral issues so unless some new ones come up, we will not be neutering. Overall, 18 months is typically when growth plates close.

    Good luck with your Pup!
