    Lethargic After Shots

Max got his 2nd round of shots yesterday. He was fine yesterday, but today he has been sleeping a lot more than normal, won't eat & is all around lethargic. He received the 1st round when he was with the breeder so I don't know if this is normal for him. I know puppies can have this type of reaction, but I'm still worried.

I would call the vet, to be on the safe side. Have you checked his temperature? It is not uncommon for a puppy to be a bit quiet the day they receive shots but if it continues in to the next day and affects their appetite I would be very concerned.

He's eating now, but not from his bowl. We gave it to him on the floor where he was sitting.

Poor baby! Hopefully he is back to normal by tomorrow morning. I would definitely let the vet know about his reaction and make sure he never gets more than one type of vaccination at a time. Space his next booster and the rabies by 2-3 weeks and don't let your vet bully you.

    Poor baby!

It wouldn’t hurt to check in with the vet. If I remember correctly (been a while and Chloe’s pups haven’t had their first shots yet) mine have been lethargic for a few hours afterwards, but it didn’t continue into the next day ...

Max is back to his crazy self again this morning. He didn't eat much yesterday, but would eat when we hand fed him or gave him kibble in his kong. Today he didn't wolf down breakfast like he normally does, but he did eat it all. I called the vet this morning and they suggested we take him in to make sure he wasn't having an allergic reaction. The hubby is taking him in shortly.

Giving multiple vaccines at one time is not the best thing to do. Unless you let the vet know upfront most will administer them like this and it can cause problems. Not only can it overwhelm their systems you would not be able to tell which one was the issue. I am glad he is feeling better today as well as being checked by the vet.

Corona is not life threatening after 6 wks so not sure why some vets are still giving this. The bordetella could have waited, esp if all they use is injectable (has fairly high reaction rates though the nasal is quite safe).
Make sure in the future your vet doesn't try to combine lepto and / or rabies in there. Those have higher risks of reactions.
