“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

Sorry to read this about Pearl . All the best with her.

Having experience with organ prolapse, you need to increase her calcium, either with a better kibble (good calcium, vit D and magnesium ratio) or by adding supplements. In TCM, the kidneys rule the bones, muscles and ligaments, and with any organ prolapse, we need to focus on the kidneys - which needs calcium to function properly and to supply the body with the calcium it needs.

I think Pearl is only 9 or so weeks old, so they probably need to be careful with the calcium she gets right now. Black Labbies, do you have suggestions regarding that? I thought puppies calcium intake was supposed to stay in the 1% range for puppies, no higher than 1.5%, and even that might be a little high. I don't know, I'm asking.

Ahh, I didn't realize that she's just a puppy. Never mind adding more calcium and vit D. And I just read that she has a parasite issue and that resulted in what looked like the rectal prolapse.

yes she is just a pup who was diagnosed with coccidae (and a UTI)... a little overwhelming along with everything else that goes with puppyhood (such as crate training...) but she seems ok... still spunky. Pearl plays for about 1-2 hrs then sleeps 1-2 hrs. I assume that's normal? I still have her on the Canidae Chicken and Rice life stages formula that the breeder had the pups on. As time goes on I may switch (ideally incorporating home-cooked at some point) but I don't want to upset her digestive system anymore now... I do give her just a little bit (1/2 tsp) greek yogurt and cran caps though as she has the UTI and is on Albon. also a little diluted chicken broth with her kibble/water so she gets more water intake. Fingers crossed that prolapse does not happen again!
