Just the plastic tray for Theo. He started out with a towel, and would even drag it to spread it out. Then I made a couple fleece beds with batting inside, but it turns out that he humps big fluffy items (and will hump plush toys if they are big enough.) So we went back to the towel for a while, but then he started chewing it. That wasn't safe and I chose safety over comfort. Maybe that will change when he matures.

We sometimes put a blanket in with Maverick but he balls up the blanket and puts it under his water dish. He prefers a bare bottom.

Daisy is not a destructive chewer. I keep a black kong crate mat in hers and she loves it. She will sleep in her crate with the door open even in the summer.

Bubba who is 4 months old and a chewer gets a towel in it when we're around, but if I'm actually leaving the house all he gets is an old tshirt of my boyfriends. The towel he's chewed before, which is why I have to watch him, but the tshirt he never chewed before.

Once hes he's proven himself he'll get something nicer

Off topic, but, Oban did too so I bought him his own humpee toy, a big teddy bear. Poppa Bear was bigger than 10 week old Oban but he gamely went to it and we encouraged him. Oban is 7 and a half now, intact, and he has never, ever humped anything other than Poppa Bear. Maybe luck, maybe we directed him to an appropriate object and he has no idea anything else will do. We don't mind, Poppa is washable and can hide in a closet when company comes to visit. Something to consider?

He actually has a big frog that came with him from the breeder. That is his usual target, if he gets the chance. I had been taking it and putting it up when he started his antics, but could try allowing it more to see if it curbs his behavior towards other items. Definitely, I don't want him doing it when visitors are around. We travelled this past weekend, and he was grabbing the corner of the comforter on the bed and bunching it up to dance, which I don't want either.

When Sophie was a baby, I'd put an antique ceramic water bottle filled with hot water wrapped in a towel in the crate with her. I'd rub the towel all over me so it had my scent on it. I did that until she was about 14 weeks old. I picked up a Kong ballistic nylon bed and tried that. On the third day I woke up to a completely de-stuffed bed, and a $300 vet bill to make sure there was no obstruction. From that point, no bedding for Miss Sophie.

I started Bruce out the same way, but only used the water bottle for about a week, it was summer so he really didn't need the warmth. I did keep a towel in with him, as he had a bad habit of dumping his water bowl. Eventually I took the water bowl out, and took the towels with it. I do let him have a medium size crate mat, which he used when it was cold, but for most of this summer he just smooshes it into a corner and uses it as a pillow. Bruce is not nearly as bad a chewer as Sophie was when she was growing up.

I do use a heavy duty rubber backed door mat in the crate in my car. It gives them something to keep them from sliding around on the plastic tray, which is pretty slick.
