I'm sure I will do it all over again! Then when I get to the "give me your shoe or else your leg gets eaten too" phase, I'll wonder what I was thinking! He is a great dog though...except for his daily antics

So glad I got some reassurance from these posts.

My chocolate lab is 2 1/2 months old, and yesterday he got diarrhea. He didn't touch his breakfast with the exception of 1 piece of kibble (Acana Large Dog Breed - Puppy formula) , but finished his lunch. And yes...he is teething.

My wife insists I'm feeding him too much, and that's causing the problem but I don't think I am feeding him too much. I give him a little bit more than a cups worth of kibble. I also introduced raw chicken wing to him, as I want him to transition to whole foods (eventually). I also gave him one raw egg, so that might have done it as well.

I think I'll feed him some white rice tomorrow to see if it helps him; I'm fairly confident it will. I was wondering though, if the diarrhea continues do you think giving him Pedialyte would be overkill or is it worth trying? I'm just afraid he'll become dehydrated.

It took us months to 'settle' Thor and his tummy. We did tons of fecal tests and they always came out clear. He loves wood chips (coconut mulch, really) and training those 'nibbles' out of him was one of the hardest parts of puppyhood. In fact he has only recently (within the past 4 months or so) stopped chewing on random pieces of wood. We also had to fine tune the quantity of kibble vs raw treats (he gets mostly raw treats and then supplemental meals with kibble) and it took a while to dial in the right ratio to keep him at the right weight without under/over feeding. It was one of the most frustrating parts of puppyhood!

And now I'm looking at my 1.5 year old angel who is snoozing with his head on my feet and laughing about it. It gets better!

Well, I wish I had a better update to give at 3:22am :P

So his diarrhea stopped yesterday morning. It was still soft, but definitely not what it was. All day yesterday, he had solid, so I was absolutely thrilled. Until a few hours ago he woke me up at midnight. We ran outside and sure enough, here comes the liquid. I just got up with him again and we went outside. I feel so bad for him. I wish I knew what was wrong. I gave him some water when we came in (he was looking for it) and he gulped it right down. I'm pretty sure he's eating, as I put some kibble in his Kong at midnight and he finished it off.

My grandma brought him a toy over (plastic squeaky bone) and he managed to eat a small piece of of it. Small as in, maybe 2/8in? It was smaller than your pinky nail if that helps at all. I'm wondering if that's contributing to this again or that's just a coincidence. The other day, I think he ate part of his soccer ball's plastic off and it gave him an upset tummy. Now here we go again...

I would cut out the raw goodies until your puppy is a bit older.

So the diarrhea has continued throughout the morning as well. I called the vet and he has an appointment for tomorrow morning. Just brought a stool sample up there as well. The technician that I talked to said it may be giardia (as apparently it's frequent around here this year)

Poor pup! But he's so good to wake you up and tell you he needs to go outside!

I know, I'm extremely thankful for that too. We bought him a new bed on Saturday which meant opening his crate up almost all of the way (we have the divider crate). I was nervous that he'd take the extra area for his "potty space", but he LOVES stretching out.

The last thing I'd want to wake up to in the morning is...well...a "present" or two. He's gotten really good about letting us know/going by the door/coming and getting you. He's a fast learner - just stubborn!

So this morning at his usual 6am "break", it was solid. I don't understand what's going on? How can a dog have diarrhea one day, be fine the next, and then have it again the next day? I'm thinking of canceling the vet appt and just having them record it in the notes in case he needs antibiotics (the vet we see is going out of town for a week or so). But then again, I'd like to get a firm answer (no pun intended) on why this is happening. I'm thinking it may be the bitter apple spray. He got a good squirt in the mouth Monday, had diarrhea the next day, got another good squirt Tuesday, and had it yesterday. He could also be eating something in the yard, but I watch him like a hawk. If it was his food, why all of a sudden are we having this problem now?

    So many possibilities

I would keep the vet visit, peace of mind is priceless. (Especially with your vet going away.) Squirting the bitter apple directly in to his mouth may possibly be the problem, or part of it. It has been a long time since I used it but I do not remember anything that advised squirting it directly in to the mouth of a puppy.
