I try to aim it near him enough to make him back off, but with him running around with his mouth wide open, he caught the spray right in the mouth.

I went to the vet yesterday with him and he was completely fine. He had a very slight temp, but he was also running around like a nut in the waiting area meeting new people and a beautiful giant black lab (she was probably the prettiest one I've ever seen!). The vet gave me some metronidazole for 5ish days and a box of fortiflora for him. She said the lab results should be back within the next day or so, but she thinks it may possibly be giardia (the rain here has brought a lot of pets in for it). She told me to continue with the chicken and rice for a few days, so I'll probably start transitioning back to kibble tomorrow evening.

His diarrhea is completely gone now, but I think the chicken and rice and the metronidazole is starting to affect him. He's only gone once today and it was "chunks" (if that makes sense). It also started out the normal brown color, but ended with a khaki-ish color. I'm figuring that the chicken/rice is causing that though. He's drinking normally and eating ice cubes, so he's definitely not dehydrated

If the lab result comes back positive for giardia he will need meds for longer than 5 days. (I assume the vet only gave you 5 days because you did not have a definitive answer yet.) The probiotics will help get his gut healthy again.

ETA - I never sprayed bitter apple at a puppy, only applied it to objects I did not want chewed. Is spraying it at a puppy something you should do? What if it accidentally gets in his eyes?

They were supposed to get back to us yesterday/today, but I can see that never happened :P I'd hope they'd call regardless if it was negative. It would make sense to.

They gave me a box (30 packets) of the probiotic. Not sure how long to use it, but I'm trying to use it for the duration of the meds and then of course I'd have some left over

We've stopped using the apple spray altogether. I'll probably just throw it away. It worked on objects (and arms) for a while, but then he started liking it. That's when we started spraying it near him. I'm heading to the store tonight and I'll pick up a regular spray bottle there. I think the "mist" scares him, but he LOVES water, so we'll see how that goes

I would use the probiotic for the full 30 days, it certainly won't hurt anything! Hopefully you will hear from the vet on Monday, if not I would call them.

Lol @ the spray bottle! Maxx thought that was the BEST game as a puppy! He still loves a spray bottle and opens his mouth for you to give him a drink, spraying it in his face is even better! Let me know how it works out for you.

Well his poop has returned to the normal, soft brown logs we're used to (thank god). It's nice giving him meds when he's older because he just sucks them down with his food and we don't need to wrestle him (versus 7 weeks ago).

The spray bottle works about 80% of the time. Mostly it gets his attention because a huge stream of water is hitting his head, but he's starting to think it's a game (sigh). He's signed up for puppy classes in 2 weeks, so I'm praying that this will help him. He'll be able to take walks in a few weeks after his last set of shots, so that'll help with his energy level too. He got me really good on my wrist last night though; there's a huge cut. This morning, he walked over to me and licked it. I guess he finally felt sorry for what he did!
