Wednesday night I let her out of the crate to eat and she was still limping just as badly as when she went in, so I gave her a little Rimadyl (half the max dose for her size) with dinner, and left her loose with the kids when I took the other two dogs to dog training, figuring she wouldn’t be too active without her co-conspirators in the house. Came home and the limp was completely gone. Was still gone yesterday morning, but I took her in to the vet anyway. She couldn’t find anything particular on exam, and said we could either continue on the Rimadyl (I’d have to get more - I only had a couple leftover from Mulder’s Rx) and rest or go ahead and x-ray her to rule out ED, pano, etc.
I chose to have her x-rayed - just for peace of mind. She didn’t see anything on an initial glance of the x-rays but sent them out to a radiologist to examine closely as some of the early signs of problems in young pups can be hard to see. We should hear back later today. We got home and she was so excited that she slipped her collar, ran out the dog door and started butt-tucking around the yard. Leg was still fine after that. So now she’s loose in the house and on Rimadyl and appears to be feeling just fine .... even last night when the dose wore off, she was limping ever so slightly but light years better than she had been the day before.
So, any good mojo you have for clear x-rays would be appreciated. On a funny note, they said she was very good when they took her back for the x-ray, but being a puppy she was kind of wiggly, so to keep her calm and still the techs apparently were singing her Christmas music! The vet said she was walking past the x-ray room and heard Christmas carols so she asked them why and they said “the puppy likes it!”.
