    Cautious Optimism

Hesitant to post this, and fingers crossed that I don’t jinx anything, but Sass has responded REALLY well to the rest the past few days. Her limp has gone from pretty bad even just walking across the room to mostly gone - barely visible for brief periods usually while moving quickly (until we manage to corral her again). We haven’t had her on complete crate rest either ... mostly just keeping her from rough-housing with her sister, and from running wild in the yard. We tried crate rest but she a) stiffened up pretty badly and b) was SO wild coming out of the crate even on a leash that I was afraid she would hurt herself further. This means that she’s been spending much of her day in an ex-pen, which she is really unhappy with, but it seems to be working. At times of the day when everyone is quiet and calm we let her have some supervised free time in the house but as soon as they start to get rowdy, back in the pen she goes.

I took her to class last night, figuring the puppies don’t do anything particularly strenuous and that she needed the mental exercise. She was of course wild when we got there - kept leaping into the air over and over until I finally got her settled, and in general was much more active than she’s been in over a week. No signs of any setbacks this morning, although she is back in the ex-pen. The instructor (who worked in a vet office for years) said she felt watching her (and she did see her when the limp was at it’s worst because she had come over to our house for something) that she didn’t think elbow dysplasia would improve this much, this quickly, so fingers are crossed.

    Here she is in jail:

And last night after class hoping I won’t notice she’s out of her pen:

    Great update! Thanks for posting.

So glad to hear she is improving. Sending mojo that more improvement to come.

Aw, that face. It's got to be near impossible not to give in and let her out.

That face in her ex-pen, "Mom, did you happen to notice that I'm standing here?"

I hope there's only continued improvement!

Awww, puppy jail! She looks ready to break out. If only she knew it was for her own good.
