    puppy/doggie dandruff

When I brought chili home he had very mild dry skin which was seen as some flakes in his coat. Vet said it should go away once chili get acclimated. fast forward to now, chili still has mild dandruff at 11 months old. just wondering if alot of dogs have dandruff? i started again adding a couple squirts of fish oil once a day. just curious to hear if mild dandruff is ok/normal and also if there is an easy fix. Chili lives in the dry southwest/no humidity/desert

Try a humidifier in your house and see if that helps. Luna has a dry coat in the winter if we don't keep the humidifier on.

Both Mardi and Archie have dandruff during shed although it is very hard to see on Mardi. I do give Grizzly oil. We don't have the very dry conditions you experience. Keeping a regular brushing routine helps a lot to distribute normal oils. That, and not giving a bath unless absolutely necessary. A cool water rinse usually does it here. Does Chili have access to a chlorinated pool; that could be irritating to skin. I think some skin shedding is normal, as long as he is not overly itchy.

Sugah had puppy dandruff when she came home.. When it started getting warmer we started flea\tick control with puppy shampoo .. Also started her on the salmon oil and it seems to have gone away .. did take a couple of months for it to go away though ..

no pool and no baths(only 3 baths entire life so far). I do need to give him another bath tho, he always magically cleans himself overnight I used to brush him daily, but I have gotten lazy lately and only couple times a week lately...think I will get back to mild brushing everyday and see if that does the trick.

EFAs help Oban. Essential Fatty Acids. His coat is dry and harsh despite brushing and a humidifier in winter, his coat is harsh year long.

I've been struggling with this too! Switched to a fish-based food, started adding sardines to dinner, and gave him a bath with this shampoo: Amazon.com : Earthbath All Natural Tea Tree and Aloe Shampoo, 16-Ounce : Pet Shampoos : Pet Supplies

I'm talking a thorough scrubbing, and really really well rinsed off. I'm happy to report that the bath made a HUGE difference. I had bathed him before but he would get running around and I don't think I ended up rinsing as well as I could have, and a good rinse really matters.

gave chili a bath this morning in the wifes soaker tub used a shampoo we picked up at tjmaxx on clearance for $4.
Think I am going to switch to an outside method for baths due to the mess he made. Now Im just letting him do his zoomies and waiting for him to completely dry off and I will give him a brush and see if dandruff is better.

In the wintertime we give Pepper some coconut oil in her food every morning. Seems to help with the winter flakiness.
