    New Puppies

My friend just got a lab mix. Surprise, two weeks later she had 11 puppies. So, what is the procedure as far as weening to gruel, shots, dew claws and such. He has to get a lot done in the next 8 weeks, and we need some guidance.
    HELP!!

if your friend is on Facebook, there are many great breeding groups there, my favorite is Canine Fertility, Reproduction and Neonatal Issues

Have your friend join there and ask questions, everyone is very helpful, and the moderators keep misinformation and poor advice off the group, so you are more likely to get the right advice. Your friend has to join though, people are not allowed to "ask for their friends". A local rescue group, or the place where she was adopted from might be a good resource too. This board is primarily based on people with pets, although there are a couple breeders here, and your friend needs more help with no experience and 11 newborns.

I don't know if any of my litter diaries will help but feel free to use them if so. Here is the most recent but I have several that may be more detailed on my Nursery page. TangoxTurbo2016

Dews should be removed by day 3 imo, if you are doing them. Day 4 is pushing it but still doable if you have a good vet. I don't know that w/ a rescue litter, I'd bother. Best of luck to your friend!

    Yeah...we had 2 1/2 weeks before Sunnie's 5 arrived.

We didn't do dew claws. Dan...the one I kept...has had no issues with his. I just keep them filed short as his other ones.

Take the advice of the breeders and other helpful folks on this board as well as sources already mentioned. The experts on this board and numerous books got me through. I'd have to Google to remember what I read seven years ago...so I'm just going to leave that to you.

I will add just the following: Human baby nail clippers work best for tiny puppy toenails (get them used to having their paws fondled early on)....and Vicks Vap-o-Rub (lotion form) is wonderful to deter chewing on hard surfaces. I also recommend weighing the puppers....I did daily....to make sure everybody is thriving.

    Best of luck!
