I asked a similar question recently and several people recommended either the Sport 30/20 or 28/18 or the Select Natural Chicken and Brown Rice 30/17. I put Maggie on the Select Chicken and Brown Rice formula and she is doing very well.
I did a ton of research using the history of this board before we ever brought our puppy home, but this was one topic I never got to. With the board history gone, I thought I'd start a new discussion since I'm starting to think about this topic.
Thor will be 6 months old in two weeks. We just stopped by the vet to get a weigh in and he's a hefty 54 lbs, but not overweight. He's definitely going to be a big boy when he fills out all those wrinkles, earning that 'Mighty' designation! He's done very well on Pro Plan Focus Chicken & Rice puppy formula. Some soft-serve stools, but those tend to come and go as we've tried different treats or he's been a bit overfed. When just on the pro plan he's been very predicable, healthy, happy.
I just picked up another big bag of the Pro Plan and as I was loading it into the car I thought, hm, when I do switch off of this one? Since he's doing so well I have no pressing need to switch him off, but I just wanted to hear when others have transitioned off of puppy food, and where they went. Especially in the pro plan family of products. With our good results with the focus chicken & rice puppy, I'd like to at least start with something similar in adult food when we do switch.

Also- six months seems to be a common age to make the switch.
Pro Plan adult food
Hoping this link works to the other thread.
I agree with the Sport line of Pro Plan foods, but I personally recommend the 26/16 for my pet families. The higher protein/fat is great for working or extremely active dogs who need a bit "more" to keep weight on, but that's not usually an issue for the average lab

That's a good point about the activity level. When Thor is older (once fully grown) he'll be joining us on a lot of our outdoor activities and getting a lot of exercise. We're not planning on anything strenuous until he's fully grown, using his first 18-24 months working on trail manners and building up to the higher activity level. Maybe start on the lower protein and work to the higher one as he gets more active. It could be seasonal as well.
I have Daisy on Pro Plan Sport 26/16 but recently I've had trouble with her appetite. I tried some of the Pro Plan Sport salmon and rice 30/20 and she loves it. I could tell it was going to be a hit when she was sniffing it out in the car--she normally ignores the bags of food in the car. I will probably go back to the 26/16 when the salmon is gone though, just to keep her lean.

Good luck with Thor's transition to Big boy food!
