I agree Patty, the marrow is very rich. Even at 6 months or so, I scraped most of the marrow out until I figured out how much would be ok. It was a while before I gave them whole then my vet educated me about slab fractures. They are gone from our house now, much to the chagrin of my 2. I would rather be safe than sorry and poor, lol!

I hear you Tammy, but what I do around 6 months is give the frozen marrow for only about 10 min.. take it away and put back in the freezer. Maybe 3 or4 days later again for 10 min. gradually working up the time that the system can handle all the marrow.

I just go "real slow" and have had good results. I also make sure I am always in the room to hear any cracking of bone, which is rare with raw/frozen and large enough bones.

That was always my thought as well and I voiced it to the vet. He laughed at me and called in our favorite vet tech and dog walker who sheepishily brought me the x-rays of her 2 y/o Lab that has just had 2 repairs, to the tune of $2000. That made me think twice. Maxx is a "power chewer" as well so it scared me. I don't want to ruin his teeth but he loved his raw marrrow bones so much.

This has been very useful. I picked a bag of 12 Bully sticks up at Cotco. Great savings. I just need to find a way to cut them in half.
