Growth depends on the lines, the parents. At 8 weeks Zoey was a robust 16 pounds but Aimee was a petite 12 pounds but both gained 2 to 3 pounds a week. Your food amounts sound about right, ive never had a 6 week old so thats a guess, and you will probably increase that in a few weeks. At 8 weeks both of my labs were eating 1 cup 3 times a day and Zoey increased at 12 weeks to about 4 cups, Aimee was smaller and stayed at 3 cups

I think my labs have gained about 2 pounds per week as puppies, maybe until about 6 months of age when it started to slow down some. I didn't make a note of Lark's puppy weights, Henry was 19+ pounds at 10 weeks and 55 lbs at 26 weeks. He's in the 70s now at 11 months I think. I was feeding the same amounts that ZoeysMommy mentions. As she also mentions, some of that will depend upon Ziti's parents, if they're stockier or sleeker themselves. You mentioned Ziti was "the runt" so I'm guessing he was smaller or weighed a little less but he may catch up to his brothers and sisters. So at 8 weeks, he might be up around 13 pounds but it's hard to say with any certainty. That's part of the fun of watching them grow- being surprised!

If that is the food the breeder is feeding, he/she should be able to tell you. It is more than my 6 wk olds would be eating though (more like what I feed at 8 wks) but mine are often still nursing from mom too. What was the reason the puppies left their litter so young?

As a side note, I personally wouldn't be feeding a lamb based food to puppies due to the calcium levels being quite high in those foods, meaning it could lead to bone growth irregularities and dysplasia. I'm unfamiliar w/ Farmina but in case you are unaware, only the large dog food companies are currently recommended (Purina, Eukanuba/Iams, Royal Canine and Hills) due to the rise in nutritional mediated DCM (heart condition). https://taurinedcm.org/?fbclid=IwAR2...UNYQSTOkjfET_E

If you look at the sticky https://www.lab-retriever.net/board/f...st-theory.html

A number of us have tracked our puppy’s weight. The numbers fluctuate widely because of the parents, like smartrock said, but in general, pups seem to gain 2-3 lbs per week until they are 6 months.

I asked about weight so I can be responsible in not feeding too much. the parents are american/hunting style and hopefully result in a 75lb lab. ziti looks exactly like her mom and was smallest/most calm/relaxed in litter. I got a packet with bunch of info from purina puppy chow...guess I need to read it...all I focused on was deworm shcedule and when to start vaccines. I stress alot easier than most with my ptsd and tbi. so I try not to stress maybe too much.

personally I wouldnt change the food for a while, but then again I dont really have a huge issue with puppy chow, Zoey was eating puppy chow when I brought her home and the transition to proplan was very easy when she was about 12 weeks, and I agree with the above post, I wouldnt feed lamb to a puppy either

ok. just weighed at 7 weeks and weighs 12 pounds. my wife weighed the 1st time, so maybe our techniques or scales were different. gonna cut it down to 1/2cup 3 times a day.

I'd probably go from Puppy Chow to Pro Plan Puppy, similar enough to not cause problems but better quality. I think 3/4 cup a meal, 3x a day is a good start, and then gauge how to proceed based on poops. They will get soft if they eat too much. Even still with my griff who is nearing a year, I feel ribs and spine very easily (so different than labs) but if I give her more than 1 cup a meal, 2 meals a day, I get soft serve. Jed (our old lab) was like that as a pup. I wouldn't cut back unless poops are soft. I'd let the puppy eat.
