Laura, below, recommended I start a new thread, so I'll move this on over, but I wanted to reply, quickly. No treats, no bones, no antlers, nothing but her kibble, period (which we're using as her training treats). Currently, we're giving her 3 1/2 cups a day of the HP venison & potato, split between breakfast, dinner, and training treats (that's about 1.5 cups less than is recommended on the bag, but it's a better amount for her over all health, growth, and gut). Ellie is never out of my sight, on walks and in the yard (we're an "eyes on or puppy goes in the crate" kind of household), so while it is possible she's swallowing something while my eyes are elsewhere, it's less likely. We have also done three rounds of fecal tests and all have come back normal. No giardia, no coccidiosis. No parasites. Our next move is DNA typing her gut flora, which runs about $300+ here in Northern California, to see what the hell is growing in there (I'm down with this). Her weight, activity, and all around conditioning looks pretty good (other than the areas where she continually scratches: base of tail, groin, armpits), so it doesn't looks to be an issue with her pancreatic enzymes. She's not on any medication currently. She is our mystery pooper!

I just read your previous thread about your issues with Ellie. It sounds like to me like you are doing and changing foods way too much. This will play havoc on a puppy's delicate digestive system.

The key is to keep things SIMPLE and most Labs will do better on a middle of the road food. Some of the other brands like Orijen, are way too rich for puppy...too many ingredients. I would also stay away from alternative protein sources like venison...stay with chicken..I believe it is digested the best.

When you start switching foods and adding this and that..you will put your puppy on a "roller coaster ride" that is hard to get off of.

Many Lab puppies do best on Pro Plan puppy food..(Focus formula) not large breed...just regular puppy. You need to give your puppy a chance to get back on track and it will take at least 6weeks to do so. Some people have no patience and after a week of feeding a food, they will want to switch to another food...(bad idea).

You also need to pay attention to the amount you are feeding...overfeeding can also cause loose stools or diarrhea. Stay away from fancy treats, marrow bones and bully sticks...these can also cause havoc for a puppy.

I would stay away from fancy brands...and stay with Pro Plan. Keep it simple.

She came to you eating Pro Plan for a reason.
