Sophie and shedding and Maine Coons and shedding O MY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving.. Since yesterday I have vacuumed and mopped and still labbie hair everywhere, sister and brother coming.. and they have three dogs themselves so I am not trying to impress anyone but would like minimal hair at least through dinner.. but you know... I love her and that is all that matters... The coons.. shed but not like her. I have read somewhere about a particular dry kibble that works to reduce shedding.. but personally, that is the way labs are... but out of curiosity.. I thought I would ask if anyone knew of such a product?

    Thanks,
    Sophie's mom

    Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

I add Grizzly salmon oil and it helps. Other than that, brush, vacuum, brush, vacuum and brush and vacuum some more.

Having had Labs for 30 years, I can honestly say there hasn't been too many meals that haven't contained a dog hair or two!! I've been feeding Fromm 4 Star to Sophie for over 1 1/2 years, and Fromm Large Breed Puppy to Bruce since he was 4 months old. These two shed far less than any Lab I've ever had. Even Sophie who is spayed hardly sheds. I do get hair of the floors, around the kennel etc, but realistically, there isn't very much. I don't feed any supplements, other than greek yogurt to Sophie, none to Bruce. I am convinced it's the food.

Chase and Lark have 2 completely different coats, Chase has a much heavier undercoat than Lark. Chase sheds like a beast and seems to be shedding particularly a lot right now, and Lark sheds minimally. Both eat the same food (Annamaet grain free) and both get Grizzly salmon oil every day. For my 2, I think genetics has more of an impact on their coats and how much they shed than their food or supplements.

I'd try adding salmon oil before switching foods. Unless you are feeding something like Ol Roy from Walmart, a food switch is not going to do much to minimize shedding.
