    Feeding in crate??

We never did this with our previous lab. We are crate training Quincy and I understand the reasoning behind doing it to make the crate a happy place but what if he already likes his crate? Should we still feed him in there? The breeder had him in a crate so he seems well adjusted to it. This morning when he was tired from playing he actually went in there on his own and went to sleep! I was pretty surprised when he did that...proud mama moment!!! Just curious what is recommended as this is new to me.

It sounds like he is adjusting to the crate nicely. I don't think it is necessary to feed in the crate, I would use it as another step in making the crate a happy/positve place or if I needed to separate dogs at feeding time. It sounds like your puppy is happy/content in the crate.

I think he is I was willing to do this if necessary but if not I would rather be able to have him sit and wait for command to eat. Its kind of hard to do that in the crate.

    Too cute!

And my lab loves his crate but I feed him in his crate anyways. I typically crate him after we train to "think" about what he learned and he sits at attention because he knows food is en route. And I eat the same time he does and he's not allowed out when I eat.

I fed in the crate to make it a good place and also to separate my dogs while eating until the pup was trained.

We never fed any of ours in the crate. But it has its place when necessary. In your case, I don't think it's necessary.

If he is in there with door open I think you are fine.

I'd say in your case, it's up to you. It may not be needed, but it's not going to hurt anything either. I'd say do what you feel is right.
