I fed my two pups 2x a day from 10 weeks of age. 5-6 months is typically when most folks switch over.

Yeah, we went to 2x a day when our pup was about 10 or 11 weeks.
As long as he's growing well (and he looks good) at 3 cups a day, then I'd say keep him at that.
