I love his ears, too! They're so long and soft. They're also speckled around the edges.

I switched Lido's food because his stools have always been loose since we got him. I thought at first that it was the stress of a new environment and continued to feed the Pro-Plan for a couple more weeks. His stools continued to get progressively worse, until they were pudding consistency. I added a probiotic, but it didn't help much. I'm currently feeding 1/2 and 1/2 Pro Plan and TOTW after a slow transition, and his stools are already better, but not perfect. If he continues to get better, I may keep him on the mixture for awhile.

I researched TOTW High Prairie Puppy. Its calcium/phosphorus ratio is within the acceptable limits for large breed puppies.

I was shocked w/ the "as fed" levels they gave me via email a couple yrs ago. You have to contact the company directly for their Ca and P *levels*. It's not all about the ratio... their calcium levels are very high in all the formulas I inquired on for a puppy buyer who wanted to change to it (she did not). YMMV however. I'd review your contract just in case.

My contract did not limit what food I can feed - only suggested Pro Plan Large Breed Puppy. I cannot feed Pro Plan to this puppy, knowing it gives him pudding poo.

What other large breed puppy food can you recommend? I've heard good things about Fromm Gold Large Breed Puppy (not grain free). My vet recommended Royal Canin Labrador Retriever Puppy, but her clinic sells Royal Canin foods, so I don't know if I can trust this. It also seems to have similar ingredients to Pro Plan.

I personally feed and recommend to my buyers Eukanuba Large Breed Puppy for the first year. Have never had pudding poo due to it, and it really helps w/uniform, slow growth rate.

Update: Lido turned 4 months old today (8/19/18), and he weighed 27 pounds yesterday. He's doing well in his Puppy 1 class and learns fast. The teacher often uses him to demonstrate new skills because he picks them up so fast. He's definitely a lab puppy though, and has energy to burn. We go for training walks in the mornings when it's cooler, and he'll do almost anything for food. Speaking of food, on the advice of his trainer, we now feed him in feeding puzzles for every meal. We've bought 4 of them so far, and they work very well. What took him a minute flat to eat, now takes him 15-20 minutes to eat.

He's doing well on his puppy food, Fromm Gold Large Breed Puppy. I decided to increase his portion tonight, because he's going through another growth spurt and looks thin again. He's now eating 1 1/4 cup 3x daily. The boy can eat!

A couple of you asked for another photo of Lido in front of the Adirondack chair for comparison to his 10 week photo, so I've included both the 10 week photo and today's photo! He doesn't hold still long, so it's not the best - sorry!

    Lido 10 Weeks

    Lido - 11.5 weeks

    Lido 12 weeks

    Lido 4 Months

    He's definitely shot up!!!

As far as food goes....... Sophie came from the UK and was on Royal Canin Labrador Puppy formula, and she did fine on it. Switched her to a rotation, mainly Fromm 4 star, when she was just over a year, she's almost 7 and is doing great on it. Bruce also came from the UK, also on the RC Lab Puppy. Started having loose poo's almost immediately after his arrival. Did some research and RC changed the formula here in the US, and not for the better. Basically I did a cold food switch on a 10 week old puppy. I put him on the Fromm Large Breed Puppy Gold and he was soon back to normal. He also went on the 4 star rotation with Sophie at 12 months, and did fine. Brooks came from windycanyon and was on the Eukanuba that she uses. He did fine. I switched him the Sophie's rotation at a year, and struggled with loose poo's. Anne recommended Eukanuba Performance 30/20, and he is doing fine on it.

Morale of the story.... Every dog is different and there is no "best" dog food, other than the food your dog does best on.

Your boy is so adorable and it’s great to hear he’s doing well with his food. I use a food puzzle too!

How is the house training going? My Diggity is 10 weeks old and I feel like we’re just starting to make progress on that front.

The food puzzles are a Godsend!! I rotate 4 different ones, so that he doesn't get bored. I'm going to eventually add a couple more. He's growing so fast that he's looking pretty thin right now. I decided to up his food a few days ago, and he's now eating 1 1/4 cups of Fromm Large Breed Puppy 3 times a day - what a chow hound!

House training is still a struggle. He was treated with an antibiotic, just in case he had a borderline UTI (a urinalysis showed a bare trace of one). He's much better when I restrict his water (at a safe level, of course). Otherwise, he drinks all the time, and therefore, he pees way too often. He can't hold it when he drinks all he wants. He's down to a couple of accidents a week - never a poo, thank goodness, but that's not good enough for a 13.5 week old puppy, IMO. I keep telling myself, patience. He will often go to the door when he has to go, but sometimes, he'll get distracted and all of a sudden, He HAS TO GO - like yesterday! I'm still having to take him outside more often than he should have to go at his age, but it's better than accidents on the floor. He's crated when we leave the house and at night, and so far, no accidents in the crate. During the day, I try not to leave him for more than 3 hours at a time. I'm hoping that the light bulb will go off soon...
