    THE PRESENTATION ~ A photograph.

    THE PRESENTATION

Seven month old gun dog trainee LAKE CHAFFEE'S AUTUMN LEGACY O' TRAD FINIAN MAC, call name "MAC" waits patiently at sit and hold of a large rooster pheasant. MAC has learned through HOLD and FORCE FETCH conditioning to carry the bird with a soft mouth and without excessive and dysfunctional mouthing. MAC has also learned to present the bird softly and immediately to hand in classic style upon issue of the command "GIVE".

MAC has a long way to go in becoming a competent gun dog but is working diligently on the fundamental skill sets so important to reaching that objective. 👌

    Cheers,
    THE DOG WHISTLER 🍀🇮🇪🇺🇸

    Sandra,
Pain and slight discomfort are two entirely different things. There is at least one other member on this board that has witnessed me doing both HOLD and FORCE FETCH conditioning and it is far from "pain" inducing to the dogs I work with. FACT: The dogs I work with do not vocalize, nor wince, cower, etc., during the process I use. FACT: The dogs I work with enthusiastically jump up on the training table for the short five to 10 minute sessions they work through two or three times per day. FACT: The dogs I work with exhibit and maintain a high level of motivation during the HOLD and FORCE FETCH process and are not mistreated in any regard.

To misrepresent these processes as all being pain inducing mistreatment of all dogs that are HOLD and FORCE FETCH conditioned is to paint a picture with an overly wide brush of complete misinformation.

Your choice not to FORCE FETCH condition Charlie is certainly just that (your choice). Congratulations on the grouse shot for your dog Charlie, I am sure they didn't feel a thing? T'is all relative. Be it FORCE FETCH and or E-Collar conditioning or the choice not to do either, both schools of thought have their own following. I choose to FORCE FETCH and E-COLLAR condition and anyone that observes me training and my dogs working would be hard pressed to produce any evidence of "pain" or mistreatment inflicted upon them.

I can attest to Mike's training methods as I've seen his work first hand, and I've used his guidance and methods on my own dog, Brooks. I can tell you this, Mike cares for every dog he trains as if they were his own. His concern for the well being of the dogs is number 1 in his training process. HOLD, FF, and collar conditioning can be done in a way that is fair and humane, and also motivates the dogs. Brooks get excited as soon as he sees his e-collar, and he knows he's about to get his birds!!!

I am happy to hear that the dogs you work with do not vocalize, wince or cover when you cause them discomfort. Thank you for your reply. Sandra
