    My puppy is growing up...

Presto has a very nice hold. He is growing up so fast! I taught him a chin rest early on, where he pushes his chin into my hand. This helps him to not develop a habit of moving things around in his mouth (chomping, chewing, etc.), which is virtually impossible when they are pushing down with their chin. It's one of those habits you don't want them to develop with anything in their mouths and I'll start generalizing this to all kinds of household items as well as bumpers, birds, etc. Presto, so far, has a quiet hold but it's good to reinforce this good habit as that can change once he's excited, but I'm also teaching him that he can, in fact, sit still while holding something in his mouth. He's incredibly wiggly! Funny, it's often the opposite where people have to teach a dog that they can move, jump, sit, etc. while holding. I can walk backward and he will continue to push his chin into my hand, he has such a high rate of reinforcement for it. It's easy to teach and also is good for vet visits and general animal husbandry. He'll do a chin rest while his temperature is being taken, ears looked at and heart checked! He is very excited when he sees the dumb bell to loves to play the hold game. I enjoy finding out how to reward my dog for doing things that are not exactly fun (I have never used the dumb bell as a retrieve item) which then turns an exercise from "have to" to "want to". I'm having so much fun with the little guy!

It's so easy! You can lure it or put your hand on the chin. Click, treat. Then add duration. Just do a search. There are lots of video tutorials.

    Thanks!

It's actually really easy and a very versatile thing to teach a dog.

I've never heard of a chin rest before. It does sound like a good thing to teach.
