    Jackson's Big Adventure

    Aye Mates,
Having finished his vaccination series and having had time to build immunity that would protect him from Parvovirus, the time had come to get JACKSON out from his home and to a variety of locations that would present opportunities for socialization with people other than his owners and with other K9's.

TTF JACKSON LAD O' CLOONFINISH ~ A recently turned 4 month old Labrador Retriever puppy is seen working on basic obedience work in an area with some opportunities for both low levels of distraction and for multiple opportunities to work on socialization. Here I am seen working JACKSON on maintaining his visual focus on me as his trainer.

As part of a planned trip to provide lots of opportunities for socialization, we made a trip to Cabela's where JACKSON is seen interacting with Marv, a staff member at the store. JACKSON interacted with several staff members and numerous patrons of Cabela's on his highly beneficial trip to the store.

JACKSON is seen here with Shirley with whom he was unfamiliar with until this meeting which provided further opportunity for proper socialization. JACKSON was not allowed to jump on people that he met throughout the day.

JACKSON'S big adventure concluded with a trip to a new training ground of which he was unfamiliar. He is seen here moving in on an Avery EZ Bird training bumper tossed into the field for him to retrieve. JACKSON has been running single marked retrieves to build his desire and love for retrieving. We will go very easy on retrieves for the next few weeks as JACKSON is exchanging his primary teeth for his permanent choppers.

JACKSON is seen here coming to the recall command "HERE". JACKSON has been conditioned to recall to the verbal command "HERE", to three peeps on the training whistle, and silently to a gestural cue that has been established to convey to him the silent command for recall.

JACKSON'S trip to an array of new environments that provided expanded opportunities for socialization, environmental adaptation, obedience work under light levels of distraction, and field work, were highly beneficial to him and will be an ongoing facet of his regular training.

One year old "MAC" was instrumental in the opportunity made to provide K9 socialization for JACKSON under a carefully conducted scenario designed for that specific purpose . MAC was particularly gentle in his interaction with JACKSON and though tentative, JACKSON surely benefited from the efforts made.

    Cheers,

Jackson is looking so good. Love the socialization.

Though 6 years old, our GSD Archie, had lived a kennel life. Socialization to everything was my main goal so he would be comfortable and confident in his new surroundings in our home and neighborhood. Even had the chance for him to see and the smells happening as our road was being paved. The big roller vehicle that packed the asphalt literally made the ground rumble and shake. Luckily, a couple of the workers came over and greeted him, which he loved, and made the experience an easy one for him. He amazed me. One thing I could never get him comfortable with was a fly swatter; he literally flattened on the floor, ran, hid. I think he was severely mistreated with a similar object in puppyhood.
