Poor Chester - glad you got it out!
We always keep our shoes in the closet, but Polly never seems to bother with them. If she manages to get one, she'll drop it and race back to get the match. Much easier to keep them out of reach, unless you fancy a game!

Thor and Chester are the same age! Thor is a clumsy, noisy pup unless flip flops are involved. Then he turns into a quiet ninja who can sneak into a room and under foot and snag a delicious sandal without me noticing. Then he stares at me with the guilty eyes and quietly drops the flip flop to the floor. He knows it's wrong but it's just so fun!

My dogs love to destroy shoes so I have to put all mine up! They also like Gucci wallets and credit cards but that's another story!!
That is a cute pic of your pup and the shoe !

Why not teach the retrieve to hand and then reward that? You may be surprised at how useful the training is. Mine even "handle" for shoes. Was very handy when I broke my back ~12 or more years ago and still useful to have them pick things up for me.

I actually had an old pair of cheap flip flops that I gave to Barley to help his teething. MY HUGE mistake - mainly because he was able to chew off a part of it. So - that was the end of that. We keep our shoes out of harms way - but he is getting bored of his other chewing toys.

They do sound like the same pup! Chester will actually pull the flip flop off your foot when you are sitting at a table. He just sneaks up to you and then runs like a mad man. That is usually his way of letting us know he has done something he should not have done. For some reason, he ignores shoes, boots and everything else.
The foam-feel of slippers or flip flops is his weakness!
