oh dear...see, i knew there was a reason i am semi-terrified of getting the next pup.... the wonderful "who me?" baby puppy stage, and then the terrible teenager stage...sigh. hopefully a busy learning pup will be easier than i remember... no more relaxed tv viewing evenings for me!

I love the treat fail! and love Sophie's look while she's being a good girl in her sit stay, and Brooks is tearing around with a clump of tasty grass! I went back and looked at his 1st sprinkler picture, and oh man, hard to believe such a change already!

That said... Barry, did you make that platform yet??????????????????

It's on my agenda for the upcoming weekend. I swear I haven't had 2 minutes of peace and quite since summer began. I honestly don't know how anyone with a full time job can raise a performance level puppy. Plus it doesn't help it's been ridiculously hot and miserably humid this summer.

Brooks is what I would call puppy proficient with sit, down, stand, heal, spin, hold, give, leave it, give it, drop it, and recall. He's also doing a great job with basic retrieving. We have also been working on sit whistles, which is going ok. He will go to his crate on command, and wait for me to get his food ready, and will wait until I tell him it's ok to eat. He will also poo and wee on command, and is what I would consider house broken. Honestly, he has far exceeded my expectations.

That being said, out problem areas are his insistence on making Sophie miserable. We are working hard to correct it, but let's face it, a puppy is going to want to play with the big dogs, and when the big dogs are total softies like Sophie, it's going to be tough. She is way to tolerant of his shenanigans.

We start puppy obedience classes this coming Wednesday. Can't wait to start on our next adventure!!

Do you have a dumbbell or at least a training dowel or bumper? Start the hold if you think he has a decent Stay (since Hold is stay for the mouth). It doesn't take that much time.... says me who is training far more now that my busy work time has started than I was able to do when I had the monsters, I mean Puppies. Frick, you want a full + time job just do THAT. I feel like I"m on vacation suddenly... hehehehe....

I have been using my finger, and a small paint roller so far. I've got to order a few things and a puppy dumbell is on the list!!

I also took him to field training this morning. I took him to one of the back ponds where it has a very shallow, gradual entry. I threw a couple bumpers in close so he could just go in and get it. The third throw was about 10 feet out from the bank, he went right in and swam to and picked up the bumper. He turned and on the way back started the "I don't have a back end" stroke, splashing the whole way back. I called it after that, my objective was to get him to swim, and he did. We also did some short, fun land retrieves while the big dogs were working. I thought he did pretty well considering it was his first time on the ground there, with a lot going on around him.

The last one cracks me up! Brooks, you need to listen to your daddy and stop tormenting your sister!
