    Separation Anxiety

Hi everyone😊 Ever since we got our new puppy king when we leave for work (live in an apartment) we get complaints about the dog barking and crying "all night". Ive heard them do it a little bit myself and we got him natural anxiety pills and got him an ultrasonic bark control thing and that hasnt worked either and im not sure what will besides a shock collar and thatd be my last option if anyone has any suggestions please let me know theyre greatly appreciated

How old is your puppy? We left a radio or the TV playing when we left for work. We also have a pet setter come by around noon to let them out and play a bit. Good luck.

how old if your puppy and how long have you had him? how long since you have gone back to work? was any work done between the time you got him til you went to work to help slowly get them used to being alone?

Is the puppy crated when you leave? if so did you crate train before actually using it?

Is there a place for his crate that is not in a room immediately adjacent to the neighbor's adjoining wall? Do you have a place you can take him outside to let him run around and get some good exercise before you leave? Since you live in an apartment, this may take some creativity on your part to find a safe, fenced area. I'd see if there are any nearby schools with fenced playgrounds or a fenced dog park, which probably won't have many dogs in it later in the evening. He's a little young for a heavily used dog park during the day.

Do you have someone who can come over while you're sleeping to take him out during the day to get him some exercise? It's a lot to expect a dog, especially a youngster, to sleep all day while you sleep and then sleep all night while you're at work. Is there a doggy day care he could go to a few days a week while you sleep to get some exercise and socialization in a safe environment? Some pups who go to day care are pretty tuckered out when they come home and sleep much of the evening. I've worked night shift myself a fair amount over the years and you might not consider taking him to daycare during the day when you're asleep, since you're right there, but if he's got a problem with barking at night, maybe the additional exercise during the day will help him sleep more at night. Try leaving a TV or radio turned on kind of low so they can hear it but the neighbors cannot.

I'd try to think of something nice to do for the neighbors, bake them some cookies, get them a gift card to someplace like Panera, Starbucks, St Louis Bread Co, some other local place, to thank them so much for their patience and to make sure they know you're working on the issue. Maybe they'll be a bit more understanding, at least for a little while.

Tanya is heavily involved in rescue and she may have some other good ideas for you.

How far away is he from your other dog? You may want to try a kong too. Also, is your neighbor absolutely sure it's your pup barking? We've been accused for someone else's dogs barking before, so just a thought.

How is he at night? Does he bark or cry when you go to sleep?

work on crate desensitization and ensure the pup has a good romp (exercise) before crating. you may have to mix physical and mental. Always crate with something like a stuffed kong or other reward. Try leaving some music on for him as well.

Agree with the above, try to find a wall farther from the neighbour and ideally if you can get a cheap video camera (they are not expensive, sorta like baby monitors you can see online with a password) to confirm if it's your dog and what's going on.
