Biting Leash and Laying On His Back

Jaxson, 5 mo. old will bite his leash and pulling on it prior to leaving for a walk. Sometimes he does it while walking but not so much now that I'm using a training collar. I've tried "bitter apple spray" on the leash, but it made no difference to him. He will do pretty good healing however a couple blocks into the walk, after I have put him into a sit he will fall over on his back, biting the leash and will not get up. I'm not sure what is the best way to get him UP and going when that happens (and how to keep from laughing! I've tried "walking out" but that sometimes results in me dragging him for a way. He IS in puppy orientation class and I have had the same behavior from him there however it seems to be getting worse this week. Any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated.

Have you offered treats? At 5 months I would think a treat would get his attention and get him off his back and back into a sitting position. Keep that positive attitude (laughing) and bribe with treats. Sounds like just an adolescent trying to get his way. But use the "labs love of food" as your weapon as you don't want him to get into the habit of this and thinking he can get his way.
