My 5 month pup still has accidents

Hello, some time ago I made a post about my dog's potty training, which isn't going very well. I believe he made some progress, since he seems to understand that he has to do his business outside. A few times he even went out on his own. Yet he still has a lot of accidents in the house. I noticed that he often pees when he is left alone, but when we are outside, he doesn't care that Im around, yet he goes a bit further from me and when I hold him on a leash, he doesn't do anything, probably because I am too close, which is why I can't hold him on a leash outside so he could pee instead of exploring. But in spite of all this, he actually does pee outside, which is progress, since earlier he would pee outside very rarely. But he still doesn't seem to understand that he shouldn't pee inside. There is also another problem. Our house smells like piss all over the place...And I doubt if there is anything doable about it, we washed the floor with chemicals many many many times, yet he still pees. I dunno, this whole housetraining thing is so frusturating...He is 5 months know, is it normal for a dog that age to still pee inside? There hasn't been a single day since he hadnt had any accidents in the house. When did your dog stop peeing in the house completely?

You have to be very, very consistent with puppies, and I hear male puppies can take a bit longer.

You received excellent advice in your first post: My lab is 4 months and still potties inside alot. Should I be worried?

Are you following it? Explain EXACTLY what you are doing. When you say he pees when he is alone- does that mean alone in the house? Right there, that would be a major problem. You say you "can't" hold him on a leash until he pees- are you walking around with him? The motion should trigger his need to pee. Are you throwing him a party when he potties outside?

I'm glad you are seeking advice, but know that it is completely normal 5 month old dog who has not had the consistent routines suggested before to pee in the house. This is not something puppies figure out on their own.

Oh, and you need an enzyme killer to clean up accidents in your house.

He WILL go on a leash you just have to have the patience with it. It will take him longer as he is older, and he can hold it longer. But it will work. You just have to out wait him lol. It's a pain but if you keep at it he has no choice but to go sooner or later I'm not trying to sound bossy but this does work lol.

Are you keeping him confined to a kennel or one room?
