    Hard day in puppy class

Man, today was a tough one. We walked in and Archie was just really overwhelmed for some reason. Then we all had to go into another room to work on loose leash walking. He was so over stimulated that he ignored all treats. I had 4 different kind! Some dogs were barking in the next room and he got so scared that he just wanted up. Then peed on the floor. Wow! He was barely motivated by food tonight. I miss labs. My back is killing me. He acted like he wanted to play with the other dogs but if a bigger dog approached he ran and hid. I'm worried. I know he's only 13 weeks but I had hopes for him to be a therapy dog. [emoji53]

He's just a baby and I've seen plenty of Labs that have acted like this in class as puppies, or worse (all over the place, crazy, bullying the little ones, crapping, nipping people, jumping). One day at a time.

Brooks was by far the worst puppy in our puppy class, by a good measure too. He barked, he lunged, he pee'd, he couldn't focus on anything for more than about a half second. By the end of the nine week class, he was the best at everything in our final "test" with the exception of the sit for exam. He lost all 30 points for that one.

Brooks is my 3rd puppy in less than 5 years, and trust me when I tell you I'm puppied out. I almost hate saying it, but I'll be glad when he's out of the teenage puppy faze he's going through right now, and starts acting like a big boy.

Take a deep breath, it will get better.

Hang in there! Kimber was the worst in puppy k. All she wanted to do was play with the other puppies. She cared little (if at all) about us. She improved, but she didn't graduate at the top of her class, by any means. She grew into a smart, well behaved dog. Puppy k is not their destiny!

    pS Hugs to you.

Chip and Betsy were both TERRIBLE in puppy class. Betsy, my dachshund mix, had to be put in time out at least three times per class. She would bark, lunge, etc with the other puppies. She was so bad that they allowed us to stay an extra three weeks of class at no charge to try and improve her behaviors. She did end up graduating and is now a pleasant, sweet dog who loves people and loves to travel with me.

Chip, my lab, went from being too terrified to come out from under my chair the first day, to being the rowdiest crazy boy, and then to being one of the best in his class. There was one class where he got so overstimulated that he threw up everywhere. We left early that day and I sat in my car, wondering if he was going to pass the class. He ended up passing it too. He was one of the best ones in his class. Lab puppies are total psychos sometimes, they just have so much insane energy and don't know how to channel it. But once they figure it out, they are a delight.

Chip and Betsy both are such pleasures to have around. It will get better! Hang in there.
