Does your lab know how to open doors?...

Just curious, because mine does. He learned how to open doors by himself, he just jumps on the handle and opens the door with his weight...Sometimes he even opens the door from the other side, he jumps on the handle and if he somehow opens the door just a little bit he uses his paw to open it completely...It's not a big problem to me actually, sometimes I leave the front door unlocked during the day and he just opens the door and goes to potty so that's the benefit haha. What about your dog? Do have any stories of your dog doing smart-weird stuff like this?

Are they round handles or levers?

Mine takes the TP off the holder with his nose.

Other things are taught, like picking up his dishes, finding and retrieving my slippers and tennis shoes, picking up groceries from the bags so I can put them away, and picking the correct collars from the collar drawer.

Hemi closes them, and drawers, which sometimes goes wrong. You can see here Hemi, Helping me do housework or not.

Now my sisters lab does open doors the same as yours, he uses the lever handles and lifts up and comes down on them with his paws. This has led to a comedy of things over the years, like letting other dogs out and leaving the doors open in the middle of a blizzard. Word of warning through my sister has been trying to get him to quit for years. Eventually, the toenails start digging into the doors, so the doors do all get scratched and torn up. She ended up putting a metal back plate on her doors but still it looks pretty bad.

The lever handles make it so easy. It is pretty funny. My cat would do it all the time in our old apartment that had those handles. Couldn't use the bathroom with guests in the apartment without locking it, or he'd rudely interrupt. We have regular knob handles in our house now though...

We had a Dalmatian who opened doors, the lever type. The lock on it flipped up to lock and in the action of pulling down the lever, he would push the lock mechanism down too. DH had to alter the lock so that pushing it down locked the door.

Was lucky enough when Potion joined us. Her breeder taught her that no problem jumping up but to not touch what she was in front of, i.e. people, doors. I've tried to implement the same training.

Nope. Oban can't even figure out how to get out an open door. LOL. Really though, he still doesn't understand that if the door opens towards him and he tries to exit too soon the door catches between his neck and shoulders and it closes on him. Our bathroom door is like this, from the inside.

Oh boy, Chase does the same thing. The door to go outside at my daughter's house is in a narrow laundry room. Chase bulls his way forward if I don't block him then gets caught by the door trying to force his way through. So yeah, no door opening magician is old Chase.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”
