    Happy Dance (Tentatively)!

Our new puppy, Lido, 9 weeks, is obsessed with water and wants to drink it all. the. time... As a consequence, he was urinating all. the. time. Both the breeder and my vet said to limit his water intake (within reason). I started doing this yesterday, letting him have a few sips of water every so often throughout the day, plus adding a little to his kibble 3x daily. I'm going to take a urine sample to the vet tomorrow to be tested, as a cautionary measure.

Today, I thought I was hallucinating...Lido ran over and touched the Poochi Bells at the back door (I'd been showing him these since we brought him home a week ago). Seriously???? I let him outside, and he ran out and pottied like a pro!!! I thought it was a fluke, but he's done it twice more since. I'm hoping he's turned the corner regarding pottying outside. Of course, tomorrow, he may pee all over the house, but I'm celebrating a good day today!

We've had some relapses, and I'm very concerned that something is going on health-wise. He is literally OBSESSED with drinking water all.the.time. He will even lick the dew off the grass when I take him out in the morning. I've been limiting his water, but last night, he apparently got to the water bowl while I was in the bathroom, drank a bunch, then spent the next hour needing to pee. I took him outside 4 times (he went each time), and he had 2 accidents within that hour. I've had to remove the water bowl and only offer it a few times a day, limiting how long he's allowed to drink.

There must be something wrong! I'm going to take a urine sample to the vet and pray that it's something easy to fix, like a UTI. I Googled excessive urination in puppies, and the other possibilities aren't good.

My vet sent it to a lab, rather than doing it house, to have a more in-depth analysis done. I should know the results by Monday.

An idea, I've read withholding water can make them drink more when they do get it. I imagine there would be an adjustment period if you go from withholding to always available but something to ask the Vet about?

I have the same concern. I've been allowing Lido frequent, short drinks-every hour, as well as when he comes inside after playing, just not a whole lot at one time. I also add water to his kibble 3x a day.

Lido's back on track with potty training - no accidents in two days now (fingers crossed it continues). I'm thankful that he's always kept his crate dry since we brought him home two weeks ago. He will often go to the back door when he needs to go outside, or he'll at least start sniffing around. I'm watching him like a hawk of course, since every accident means starting potty training all over again.
