    I’m hiding...

At the other end of the house from Stormy. Breakfast time isn’t for another 5 minutes, but DH left early for work today and she has been barking in her crate since he got up.

She’s been barking more during the day, too. DH normally works from home and yesterday he was on his last nerve with her. She just does not want to be in the crate and SHE WILL NOT BE SILENCED.

I’m hoping to get her into doggie day care next week- was going to do just one day a week but we may need more. Or rather, DH may need more “time away from Stormy”- at least during his work’s peak crazy time...

He did leave early if you wrote this at 5:07 this morning! She certainly is a talkative little girl. It's frustrating when the conventional approach, just ignore her and she'll learn it doesn't get her anything, doesn't work the way it's supposed to. I hope a little DDC gives Stormy and your husband both what they need for a happier co-existence!

Thank you for the sympathy. She is doing much better: she reliably sleeps in the crate with no fussing at night, and during the day she naps in the morning and afternoon in it. But she sleeps from like 7 am to 9 am, and DH needs to work until 10 am before giving her a break. But she starts barking at 9, and he doesn't have as much ability to ignore the noise like I do! (She can wait until 10, biologically. She just doesn't want to.)

It's also complicated by the fact that we rarely crated Kimber during the day, and DH, while seeing the benefits of nap-crating, still feels guilty for crating Stormy when she's awake.

    We'll get there. Yawn.

You will get there for sure and when you do you will look back and vaguely remember what it was like...it's all so worth it in the end I look back now at Dozer's first year and how many times I said in my head I thought "I'm not sure I can keep doing this" with all of his urinary issues and peeing 30 times a day and feel so guilty now for even thinking it ...and here we are so very thankful we persevered. Stormy is a beautiful girl who loves to "talk".
Good luck with the Doggy Day Care!!

So good news: Stormy passed her doggie daycare assessment this morning with "flying colors." When it came time to leave the facility, she pancaked on the floor in an effort to stay, so I'd say she liked it there.

Unfortunately, much of January is full. I got her in for a few days, waitlisted for others, and signed her up to be a weekly regular starting in February.

Sounds like she had fun at the daycare. Im not sure what you can do to help the barking. Have you tried giving her puzzles in her crate?

I'm just writing to send my sympathies...we went thru the same thing with Mayson. My husband worked from home and Mayson would just bark, bark, bark! There was a point where I thought DH was going to send Mayson back to the rescue! Can't say we did anything special, but we eventually got thru it by 5-6 months.

Good luck and nest wishes for continued patience!!!

I keep reminding him (and myself) that Kimber was 7 months old before she quit barking in her crate. I truly *am* enjoying puppyhood, but it's easy to miss all the good behaviors of old dogs.
