    Potty training

Little bit of background info. Murphy is 11 weeks old. I work fulltime. I start anywhere from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. until 5 or 5:30. I get an hour lunch break and I come home for it. My break varies, but is usually somewhere between 11 and 1.

I get up around 4:30 with him and potty, feed, potty, play, potty, kennel and off to work. This is repeated on my lunch and as soon as I get home. For the rest of the evening he's out of his kennel playing and hanging out with my husband and I. Lots of potty breaks and play.

His kennel is dry when I come for lunch, but wet when I get home from work for the night.

Problem is, he pees like every 10 minutes. In the house or outside. I feel like all I do is run him outside and clean up pee from my carpet.

Any suggestions? When my other labs were puppies I was a stay home mom. Now we're empty nesters paying for college lol

Are you rationing his water consumption? Lido drank like a camel when he was younger - whole bowl fulls at a time - then peed rivers, and my vet told me to give him frequent water breaks during the day, but not to let him drink a whole bowl at a time, and not to leave water out for free consumption. My vet said her lab did the same thing and unfortunately, never outgrew the habit, so she still has to ration water. Fortunately, Lido outgrew it at around 7-8 months old.

Are you using an enzyme cleaner like Nature's Miracle to clean up accidents? If not, the pup can smell the residue, even if you can't.

Good luck! I feel your pain. Until I started following my vet's advice, Lido was the same way at that age. Finally, the light bulb turned on around 14 weeks or so, and he was suddenly potty trained!

Do you have a neighbor or friend that might be able to let him out during the day a couple of times. That seems like a long time for an 11 week old puppy to be left alone. My husband and I are retired so we were here with our new pup when she was that age and we were taking her out every hour or so during the day. It has to be hard to potty train a pup when you are still working. Good luck!

my schedule was similar to yours with all my dogs. At that age, I didnt allow any water drinking at lunch time except for the water I put in with the food. On average, also remember they can usually hold it about 4 to 5 hours max at that age, mine were always good for about 4.5 to 5 hours

And yes they pee like crazy at that age, you will be out more than you are in, it feels like every 10 minute at that age

Make sure you clean out the crate with something like Natures Miracle, he is getting used to peeing in there and thats a habit even harder to break than regular potty training

NO crate. After finding a cold, pee soaked puppy in the crate I vowed - no more crate. Well, sort of. Crate but door open so he could leave to pee or poop if I didn't get there in time. We put gates on the kitchen and discovered he would leave the crate to pee or poop well away from it, on my vinyl, easily cleaned, kitchen floor. Huge caveat, they can wreck your kitchen; Oban didn't.

A puppy that young needs to be taken out for potty breaks every hour or so...I'm thinking the puppy is spending way too much time in the crate. I agree with finding someone to help out during the day. It's very difficult to potty train a puppy if you're not home.
