One of my Labs took to the water immediately, but it took a bit of coaxing to convince my other to even dips his paws. Now they both loooove the water! Neither have been big fetchers, try as I might to get them interested. I'm always envious when I see other dogs that love fetch, I think about how easy it must be to exercise them

I think Puppy Kindergarten or a group class in general is a great way to socialize your timid pup--the dogs interactions are supervised by a trainer, and they can give you tips on how best to work with your pup and help get her over her fears. Plus, classes are fun (I'm a nerd!) and it's fun chatting with other dog owners!

I have an almost 5 month old that is not much of a fetcher either. She'll go 10 times max, then she's done. I joke I got a broken retriever! lol But I've seen others here say it takes a while for it to click for some dogs.

my lab cooper would not swim for the longest time. he would walk in the water no problem. if you tossed a toy in he would go out as far as he could touch. if he was able to get his toy, great. If he wasn't then he would just wait for the waves to bring it back in. It took him until about a year old before he actually started to swim. I went out in the water and tried to get him to come out. we had other dogs for him to kind of follow. nothing worked but time. I would just give your pup time and keep trying to swim. it will come eventually.

    good luck!!
