    Night time insecurity?

Help!! I cannot get a full night of sleep! My 6 month old had been sleeping fine through the night but now he will get up several times and put his paws up on the side of the bed. I will tell him to go back to bed, which he does, but then does the same thing in a few hours. It is as though he is just checking in on me. It is hard to get him fully exercised with time change so perhaps this is it?

Is he crated? We have Stella at 7mo and we need to crate her at night so she understands play time and checking in are over for the night.

It could be the lack of exercise, young dogs that are understimulated do have trouble sleeping in my experience.

Try crating him and see if that helps?

Do you think it is OK to crate him now since he has never been crated? Husband (now soon to be ex-husband) refused to comply with crate training. I have considered it since I did buy a crate for him and he is used to the crate for travel.

There are several good posts about crate training so I recommend some to search for those. When we first brought Mocha home, we were able to put the crate right beside the bed. When Mocha whined, DH would put his hand on the crate.

you can crate train at any age but start by crate desensitization. make it a good place before you start closing the door and leaving him in there for more than a few mins.

    Definitely agree with crate training.

Fortunately, Archie was familiar with being crated. He's just like your pup. In fact, he was up at 1:30am last night, front paws up on the bed. I've been working on crating him at night, closing the door but not locking it. Most nights he stays put but guess he was antsy last night.

Crating goes way beyond getting a good night's sleep. It gets them comfortable with the situation which is good if they have to be crated at the vet or, heavens forbid, in an emergency situation where he needs to be crated for his safety.
