Exclamation Gross Question (Read at your own risk)

I have never had a boy dog before so I am not sure what is normal or not. We've had him since he was 9 weeks old and he came with a brown stuffed dog that was his size at the time. We call his stuffed dog his "baby" since he sleeps with him. He has humped his baby since Day 1. Whatever, I don't care about that but lately I have noticed that when he is just sitting there, his little winky (don't know the technical term for this) comes out. Grosses me out. I don't know if he even notices it or not.

We were doing training and I tried not looking at it and focusing on the task at hand since I had his attention but still. He is 13 weeks old. He has also been humping his baby with a lot more aggressiveness than in the past. Does this stop after he gets neutered or not? Also, how do I get him to control his winky situation or can he not?

It's been called red rocket and lipstick. It's his penis. No problem posting here, it's part of your dogs anatomy. Open and frank discussions help us all learn.

With that said, I'm no expert on puppies, we home seniors. I'm sure a puppy owner will have some good advice.

i'd suggest you "get over it".
he's a male dog, and neutering, when it's time, may or may not change this behavior.
i have had males that never do that, sometimes do it.

I've had and have a female that mounts my mellow male.
oh well, is what we say in this house.

and eli, my yet to be neutered frenchie, masturbates like a human, with his paw. go figure. nick tells me it's because of the structure of his body-no neck, cant reach parts that other dogs can.
funny, he can reach his penis just fine.

It's pretty normal and I think they do it neutered and not. Hammer has always shown it every once in awhile. You get used to it :P The humping is pretty normal but I think he might grow out of that as all of my dogs have.

Maxx does not hump but his "lipstick" makes frequent appearances, always has. I have had other males that rarely showed it. I have never paid it much attention. It is what it is, the dog really does not care and their humans need to ignore it. It really isn't a big deal unless you are a non-dog person. I have seen some funny reactions from them and children!

LOL, what does it say about me that I jumped into this thread right away? Such a disappointment to find this is just about normal doggy activity.

His little "winky" is his penis. Correct anatomical terms always help if you have a problem.

No, it probably won't stop after he gets neutered. By then he'll have learned it and most likely continue. Humping is not always sexually motivated and his young age this isn't. They seem to hump for fun. Girls do too, and neutered girls and boys do it. My girl did.

For me humping a toy is not a problem. I bought one specially for my boy when he was about 9 weeks old, a teddy bear that was bigger than him at the time, Poppa Bear. Oban is still intact at 7 years old and he's never, ever humped anything else. Maybe we were lucky, maybe it helped that I encouraged him to hump Poppa. When company comes I hide Poppa in a closet.

Some people don't like humping even a toy, simply stop him if you don't. Distract him, pick him up and move him. I definitely would not allow it when training. What kind of training were you doing? Obviously he was not paying attention and that is more of a problem to me. Oh, wait, you mean his penis came out during training? That he probably will get more control over as he matures.

LOL, wait till you see his glandis bulbous.

I've always thought of the appearance of a dog's penis to be related to body structure....some pop out and some don't. If he's a sloppy sitter, that could be the cause...and he may change his sitting posture with time. My Danny used to sloppy sit much more when he was younger.

The humping.....practically all of my dogs humped stuffed toys when they were younger. And none did it as adults. Danny was a real humper and marker until he was neutered and that "stopped on a dime" with the operation. The only dogs I've had who humped as adults....other dogs, not stuffed animals....were dominant females.

Don't worry about it....I've always figured that the stuffies didn't really mind. (and it never crossed over to dog/human humping)

    Don't forget the smegma!

Bobby had his "crayon" out all the time. Sometimes, we would just be training a sit and there it was. Sometimes, he would be eating dinner, and tada! And when we had visitors, it was out there for the world to see. At first, it was a bit gross and a surprise but gradually, we just got used to it. Over the months, his crayon has ruined many good photos as well as, generated lots of humour as we joke about how "perverted" he is. He never really humped as a young puppy though, only when he was riled up and in landshark mode. He did hump as a teen but that has reduced dramatically with training.

It's just something you need to put up with if you're going to live with a male. If you ask me, it's a miniscule sacrifice in exchange for the unimaginable mountains of love and happiness they give back.
