    A break from intense training

We have been struggling on Latte's some health issues for a couple of weeks. Yeasty ears (or infection maybe, still waiting for the test results), eye infection, cold and now Giardia *Sigh* Therefore I couldn't pay enough attention on her training for about 2 weeks. I wasn't very disciplined. And Giardia makes her sleep often and lethargic. And my only goal is keep her comfortable nowadays. Besides I am going to visit my family on Friday. I am not going to be here for 15 days. DH is going to take care of Latte and he is good at training her but I am the one who spends more time on training her. Do you think I will be able to catch up with the training when I'll be back? I mean is this a serious amount of time to lose on training?

sorry to hear your pup hasnt been feeling well.

so two weeks plus 15 days ia a bout a month of no training? Do you mean NO training or just no big intense sessions? I assume day to day you still require good general behaviour and practice the basics and such? It's not a free for all with puppy getting away with anythign and everything?

Training breaks are good and needed (though again, you can't start allowing things that they shouldn't do, just means you cut out the "formal" training bits). A month is long especially at that age when it's more critical but if you maintain a status quo on expected behaviours it won't be the end of the world most likely. Just key ou don't allow behaviour that you will want to "fix" later - fixing takes 10x as long as just training the routine/behaviour/expectation from the beginning.

For puppies training shoudl be a daily happy easy going thing. Not "intense". they can only take so much anyway (in any one session). Even 3 minutes here or 2 minutes there is good. if a session is too long you lose the puppy's interest.

Yes. I mean no teaching commands. Requiring good behaviors is now a habit for me and DH. No problem with that. We never allow unwanted behaviors. And we're always on NILIF. However, when I'm with Latte, I have short but formal sessions with her. We go on a walk, have a training break (e.g. recall practicing in a fenced area), come home, another training session etc. This is our routine. When I am not here, this sessions will lessen. So I don't think any bad behavior will occur on DH's supervision but we'll be slow on some command training.

Sorry to hear she hasn't been feeling well. It is a while without formal training, but it's not like you're turning her loose with no discipline or human contact I think our dogs adapt better than we do sometimes. I think she'll be fine. And she may teach your DH a thing or two

I think she will be OK. As Crafther said, I think our pup's adapt better than we think they do. I think your the one who will have issues by not that sweet face for 15 days!!!

I think she'll do fine. Archie had about a 3 week break in his training with his extensive dental surgery. He still had to behave but formal training was put on hold. He seemed to pretty much pick up where we left off once we started again.
