My parents let their dogs beg and it drives me nuts! So that is another reason he was taught to stay out.
Why dont you use the same method you used for keeping him out of the kitchen? If he is good at that it shouldnt be a problem.

Oakley is a Velcro dog too. She doesn't stand on my feet but lays her head on them. I can be in one spot for a few seconds and move and she plops her head on my feet in the new spot. Over and over and over again. It is kinda nice when my feet are cold!

I swear, Ellie must be related to Sunshine. She does this same exact thing! She has to investigate absolutely everything, which means she is often in my personal space. I used to fight it and give her the "No!" command (when she was a chewy puppy, she would investigate, grab something, and then run off). Now I let her have her second to see what it is I have in my hands and ask her "Back up, Please!" No more stepped on feet! Whew.

I fell your pain, Beth. Ellie stepped on my bare foot last week when I was giving her a bath in the shower (panic prancing). Holy moly, it blew up and bled like mad under the skin and I have a nasty bruise to show for it. They really can inadvertently hurt us.
