Best toys for a new puppy??

Hopefully this is the right place to post this We are getting close to bringing our little guy home so we are starting to prepare! What are some good recommendations for toys?

Hello and welcome! When Fred bear was smaller (10 months) he loved his Nylabone Wubby* and of course the Avery's bumpers to retrieve. I learned early from my experience not to give him toys that looked like shoes, socks, boots Or hats.. Tennis balls were one of his favorite then a cheap football with a little air out.. He would t go on a walk without carrying that old nasty flat football the whole time. Not a lot of knowledge from me but I hope it helps! Good luck with your puppy!

** and the thick rope toy tied on both ends ohh boy that was a must have at bedtime! And too many toys at first got him really bored of all of them. But one or two then he picked out which one was his favorite (football)

Thanks! I did get a knotted rope and a Kong for puppies. I want to get a good variety and rotate them, with only a few available at a time. Its been 12 years since we have had a puppy...Im starting to panic a bit lol

Puppies dont generally destroy toys that bad so i go all out. Lots of soft squeeky toys, soft rubber balls, rawhide retriever rolls. Make sure the toys are a decent size, no small toys

When the adult teeth come in you will want more durable toys and chew items

Im glad you mentioned rawhide rolls. Can these be given to puppies? My Abbey used to choke and gag on them so I had to quit giving them to her. They always made me nervous!

Get the american made retriever rolls only. They dont come apart as bad. No knotted or bone shaped rawhide. And always supervise, rawhide is good for those little teeth, softer than most bones

I saw a post on here where kong had a recall of some product. I can't seem to find it now. Maybe I'm mistaken. I forgot one thing... A laser pointer... That kept him busy enough to sleep and dream those good puppy dreams when I needed some "me time" lol

Zoey loves her "light" it is her very special toy that only comes out once in a while. It sure did come in handy that first summer with her, i was confined to the house with her alot for 4 months because of the severe heat here in Vegas

And because id feel bad if i didnt tell you, word of warning with laser pointers, some dogs become obsessed with all forms of light and shadows because of it. i only take it out on occasion these days and she knows when i put it back in the drawer, we are done. ive never had an issue personally and ive never known a dog who does. I dont promote them nor am i againest them, it really depends on the dog and i think moderation is key

Very well said! I still feel like the cool dad when I turn it on and everyone rolls their eyes *not this thing again, lab tails and items on a coffee table are mortal enemy's in this house

I know a dog who has a problem with them... he's kind of nuts now. If he sees a shadow or a glimmer of sunlight he goes absolutely bonkers. Same thing with reflections of mirrors or Christmas tree ornaments.

Luna loved antlers and balls as a pup!
