Have you tried letting her sleep in your room with you? My dogs would be very upset if they were not allowed to sleep with their humans! I have never had an issue with night time nonsense though.
It's the age and her new found freedom, lol.

I'm really, really trying to avoid this, as she is still very clumsy with her paws and likes to get us in the face, plus if there are dog hairs in my bed I get little itchy welts on my skin. I seem to be fine otherwise with her, in all aspects.
According to many, once you let them on the bed they'll never sleep anywhere else...am I right?

I have one that sleeeps on the bottom of the bed and one that still sleeps in his crate, (door is open), or on the master bath floor. If I ask my dog to get off the bed she has no problem sleeping on her doggy bed.

We let Oliver sleep on the floor next to us since he was about 5 months old (crate free). He does not sleep all night but after getting smacked in the face by a sleeping me because he tried to wake me up (it wasn't an actual smack, more like a shove away from my face), he has learned that he just lays there quietly until I get up and shower. When the husband switched to 2nd shift, I was concerned that this would disrupt our routine but it hasn't at all. Oliver doesn't stir when the husband gets home or comes to bed.
All you can do is try and get them in a routine. Oliver thrives on a routine.
To answer your question about letting them sleep in the bed...I would let Oliver sleep with me in bed when my husband wasn't in it and Oliver actually preferred to sleep on the floor. Guess we got lucky with that. Lol.
Don't allow your happiness to be interrupted by overly judgmental people. The problem is not you, because even if you do good all the time, they would still find a way to judge you wrongly.

Not entirely accurate. I have one that sleeps with us sometimes and sometimes prefers to sleep in his own bed. And one that cant get in and out of our bed so stays with us all night. Really I believe Maxx&Emma are right. I think she is just trying to be closer to you guys. If you put a bed in your room if she uses one, or a place for her to sleep I bet she will stay there. You do not have to let her sleep in your bed but I bet she would appreciate being in the same room.
Ok, I'll try it this weekend - putting her bed next to mine. Tonight she'll be in her crate because I'm soooo tired.

Thankfully, it was a normal night - Sophie in her crate, me asleep in my bed - and the usual chorus (dog whining, cat meowing) began at 5:30.
Hubs installed a hook on the one side of the baby gate that she was previously able to open, so we'll try again on the weekend. Thanks for all the advice, guys 'n gals.

I've got some mild form of PTSD lol...last night I jumped out of bed at 3:30am because I heard Sophie coming up the stairs. Turn on the light, stumble out to the hallway to round her up.......and she's asleep in her crate!
Guess it was just a dream...back to bed I went, but I woke her up in the process. SMH
