With our Rosie we took her out every 15 minutes then slowly worked up to every 1/2 hour and so on. Rosie would start pacing back and forth and sniff around so we immediately took her out. There were plenty of accidents but by the time she was around 4 months old she stopped going in the house.

By now I know that after about 1 hour to 1 1/2 hrs after eating she will have to go.

Thanks everyone. I think I just need to stop comparing her to Archie.

She is very good overall, and will head to the back door when she needs to go. We can go days or weeks without an accident and then she will pee on the carpet. I feel very reassured - we will get there!

Yep, they are all so different! My two couldn't be more different even though they are similar lines, same breeder, etc.

It is rare for a puppy to be fully potty trained at 16 weeks. Not saying it can't happen, but it's very unlikely. I want to say that at nine months with both of mine, I could fully trust them, and that's when I let myself relax a bit about the routine, etc. But not completely. At a year old they were solid.

Kimber spoiled us; she had a total of three accidents in the house. When we got her, DH was home 24/7 and hung out with her all day in our finished, walkout basement. We kept the sliding door open all of the time so Kimber could just walk out instantly, or DH could scoop her up and take her out in a nanosecond. But for the longest time, if we were in another part of the house, she wouldn't give us any kind of signal that she needed to go outside. Finally, at about 6 months old, she would come and stare at us. LOL.

However, he does hit the button just to go outside to play. But I think that would happen with any signal you teach.

Also, cleaning up any accidents with Nature's Miracle or similar cleaner.

One of our friends loves that button and asked how we trained Mocha to hit it. DH told him we just put the instructions on the floor next to the button and Mocha read them!

I want this bell! I'm sure it would get annoying having three dogs constantly ringing it, but it seems fun in theory!

I think mine had about the same number of accidents, but I watch them like hawks. If I could not watch them, they were crated.

Linus did pee on my bed once.

haha this is too true! Our one lab will just sit at the bells and nose them then stare at you as you walk by and if you don't pay attention to her she rings em louder and louder. Then when we use to give in and let her out she'd run outside and sit in the lawn waiting for us to come out. They learn to play the system when they're older for sure.

I have had dogs that do that. Sam runs into rivers/lakes/oceans and cops a squat. Recently I realized I had pictures of him peeing in about five different bodies of water.
