not familiar with that program but I highly recommend puppy classes (starting as soon as you can) for socialisation to dogs, people, new places, sights, sounds, textures
The breeder we got Quincy from recommended a video called Sound Beginnings by Jackie Mertens for obedience and start retriever training. Any thoughts? And recommendations? With our last lab we really didnt do any formal type of training, just simple sit, stay etc. The breeder demonstrated with his dogs for us doing some retrieving exercises and I was really impressed with it. Its something I think I would like to teach him.

Absolutely. Excellent and highly regarded in Hunting Retriever and Field Trialing circles.
Another one (that begins with puppy and goes into young adult retrieving skills) is Bill Hillmann's. You can find some of his clips on youtube and he has a webpage.
But Sound Beginnings is excellent.

Ok thanks! I am going to get the Sound Beginnings video then. Its what the breeder uses and he has offered to help us if we would like. he is also going to board for us when needed.
Jackie Mertens is good but I really like the Hillmann DVD. He emphasizes on getting the dog to sit solid until he teaches the here command or does any type of advanced retrieving. All the while getting him to love retrieving. One thing i don't think merten talks about that hillmann emphasizes on is balance. Basically if you're dog loves retrieving and is energetic, work more obedience on him/her, if they're not so energetic do less obedience and work on getting them excited about retrieving.
In my opinion having seen both a couple times the Hillmann DVD is work the extra cash.
If you do go Sound Beginnings, PM me and I can potentially part with my copy.
