    Antlers for dogs??

Are antlers ok for dogs to chew on? And if so where do you get yours at? Someone suggested these to me because Quincy doesnt like anything Nylabone or rubber...not really even his Kong. The only thing he will chew on is a retriever roll rawhide. I did break down and buy this shin bone thing and he likes that also. I am just so cautious and unsure about what is safe for him.

I would be careful with antlers for chewing. Some people have reported broken teeth with them. Antlers are very hard. Some say anything you can't scratch with a thumbnail is too hard.

A lot of people use them. My sister just paid for expensive tooth extraction for her dog after breaking a tooth on a bone. Her vet told her she see's a lot of broken teeth from bones and antlers and told her to stay away from them.

Ok, didnt think about that! So any suggestions besides rawhide? He is a BIG chewer! My previous lab never was so this is kind of new to me. And she would chew a Nylabone where as he has NO interest at all.

Bully sticks and rawhide rolls are great. Make sure the rawhide is chipped and pressed, made in the USA of course! My 2 also enjoy frozen, raw turkey necks. Always make sure you are able to supervise.

So bully sticks are ok? I've looked at them but wasn't sure. I always buy made in the US but they are hard to find! And packaging is tricky. I notice alot say distributed by the US but a product of some other country

I get bully sticks without issue. There are some that are sourced and made in the USA, you just have to check. I have used those that are sourced in Brazil, no problems at all.

I have never had a problem with antlers. The boys love them and chew them all of the time. I buy them here Elk Antler Chews | Premium Dog Treats & Gear | Mountain Dog Chews

Toys have taken a big hit at my house since I took the bones away. Mine had chewed bones more than anything. They pick up a nylabone but don't really chew on it. I do give them bully springs but those are expensive for lasting from seconds to a few minutes and don't really satisfy the chewing because they are so quickly consumed. They are more of a treat than a chew. I don't have a solution for chewing. I have given the occasional rawhide but don't want them eating those as often as they want to chew.

a dog can break a tooth on anything hard really. always a risk. Vets will caution against pretty much any chew toy/item. Much also depends on the type of chewer the dog is. My two get a very occasional hikory benko bone.

I give antlers and nylabones (nylabones to some dogs, alwasy buy bigger than recommended).

I do not give rawhide ever.
