    Issues with recall while traveling

I have been having major issues with Molly's recall while traveling. Each time I get to a new location I have to retrain. Is this Normal? I am also having to use beyond high value treats as there is way too many new interesting things for her to discover. For example while in the State park near Roswell, NM she saw a Jack Rabbit for the first time. SHe yanked so hard I lost hold of the leash and she was gone. Off she went into the forest after the rabbit. I thought I lost her forever. It felt like forever biut in less than 5 min and 3 recalls she was back at the tent.

She has managed to get away from me 3 times and I stress majorly. Granted I am greatful she always comes back. But oh boy does it put fear in me.

Any advise would be helpful. I have her attached to a 30 ft leash that gets wrapped around a tree or picnik table and her 6Ft leashe gets attached to that as that is always on her.

How well did you train and proof recall in all kinds of new places and distractions? Recall takes a while to teach and proof. Molly is still young, I am not surprised she is over stimulated and distracted. I would make sure she is not off leash at all, keep her on a long line at all times. You can work on her recall while away using the long line as well but I would not trust her to be off leash at all.

Oh, Molly, there are so many new sights and smells and things to chase.

How about doing a training session in these type of situations. Get her concentrated on you and work the command until she is quick to respond. Daily refreshers in tough situations will help her. She's young and inquisitive so keep it up.

No I have not allowed her of leash but she wiggled out of her harness one day by the lake and a hot dog was the best treat ever. Ill just keep working with her

She will get there, it takes time and lots of work. Molly really is still a baby, thank god she came back to you the times she has run off. Many people are not as fortunate.
