      Painful yelping at night?

Twice in the past 2 weeks Beau has woken up FRANTICALLY yelping in the middle of night, and im not talking like 1 yelp, its like 5-10 of loud im in serious pain yelps. They both happened when he was in his crate and I assume was asleep (12:30 am and around 3am last night) The first time I sprung out of bed and he was standing up not putting an weight on his foot, and last night I just waited to see if he would stop on his own and he did.

Could it be a type of night terror?
The only real pain things I could think that would happen are his toe maybe getting caught in the cage or his foot possibly falling asleep and him not knowing how to react to it.

Has this happened with anyone else? From what ive seen his perfectly normal the next days and doesn't show any signs of injury.

Bad dreams? I've heard my dogs whimper and yip and growl in their sleep. Loud fearful yelping as if hurt, no. Poor wee guy. The only thing I can think of is to move the crate to a different spot and beside you, if you can. Just to see if it makes a difference.

      Hmmmm....puppy.....OK.....change of plans.

I'm left with the thought that maybe he has some sort of internal pain...I'm thinking gas here...that scared him. My Danny gets seriously upset when his tummy isn't right or if he's got gas. Or, yeah, anything else that could have scared him...perhaps a bad dream...and came out sounding like a pain yelp...calling you out of fear.

The holding up of the foot could just be the way he was standing when you walked in...not necessarily anything that linked the paw to the yelp. But I'd check out the crate if I thought he may have gotten stuck somehow. Or pinched.

Any chance there's something flying or crawling around that could have bitten him?

I'm just having a tough time considering two occurrences to be a coincidence...

I would check to see if there are any sharp points on any of the wires in his crate he may be extending his feet or something in the night and hits like a sharp point or something.

That happened once with Bubba a few weeks ago. It was terrifying! Since it work me up so abruptly in the middle of the night, I didn't have my detective hat on. I got him out of the crate, took him out to the bathroom, and he slept fine in bed with us the rest of the night.

Never figured out the true cause, but our guess was night terrors of some sort.

This happened to Bruce when he was about 9 months old. Let out this blood curdling scream in the middle of the night, I immediately turned on the light, and he had this bewildered look on his face. I took him outside, he pee'd and poo'd, and we came in and went back to bed. He seemed ok, but I was pretty freaked out. I called my vet and talked to him about it. He figured Bruce got a toe or paw caught in the wire of the cage while he was asleep, causing the screaming. Hasn't happened since, for which both of us are grateful.

Has he been getting more exercise than usual? When Maverick is VERY VERY tired he will sometimes make those weird screaming noises in his sleep. It has woken me up before and I am an EXTREMELY heavy sleeper. Other times he just snores and whimpers.
