Thank you! I've tried putting him in his crate when I catch him on one of his "this couch really looks good I want to bite it and rip it up" rampages, only to have him scream and bark pretty loudly. I may look into getting a trainer soon, as I'd love some one-on-one guidance with training/tips/etc.
At 8 weeks old, the main thing you can do is have patience - he is just a little baby! We would just put Bubba in his crate with a blanket over it (make sure he isn't able to pull it in and chew on it), the fan on, the lights out, and shut the door. Basically the exact same way as when we got to bed. Even though he cried, we just let it happen. One important thing is to never open the door when he's crying or barking. Wait for even a 15 second break before going in to get him out.

Bubba hated (and still hates) his crate and xpen. Now he no longer barks and whines since working on it with trainer, though he still doesn't look very happy in there Usually after staring at me woefully, he goes to sleep within 5 minutes.

One amendment I wanted to make to my above post about not letting them out when they cry is that this should only apply if you know they don't have to go to the bathroom. So for example, I take Bubba out to pee, put him in his crate and he cries, I'm not going to let him out.

If it's at night and he cries, I take him out right away.

He's catching onto the crate training pretty quickly which surprised me. I've been sleeping right next to his crate on the floor during the night since he's been crying and keeping everyone else up, but as of last night, he only starts to cry if he needs to go out. I think I can finally go back to my own bed (yay!). Today, he decided to have a "rampage" after breakfast, so I put him in his crate to calm down and he ended up falling asleep.

I also ordered some bitter apple spray from Amazon last night that should be here tomorrow. In the meantime, I've tried lemon juice (which he gladly licked off of my hand) and a small amount of jalapeno juice (which he also licked off of my hand). Fingers crossed that the bitter apple spray works because he's starting to chew the woodwork *face palm*

Don't be surprised if he likes the bitter apple spray! I have had puppies think it is a good thing. I found that a large, braided bully stick worked well to distract from chewing unacceptable items and it lasted a long time before teething.

Hi, I would like to share my experience with my dog Hummer. We had him when he was six weeks and the first few weeks drove us nuts. Not only were we adjusting to each other. We also had to adjust to the puppy biting and nipping. Add to that, he goes anywhere he wants! More or less, we followed the same tricks in stopping the puppy biting except for the spray bottle. I think that's a clever thing. Anyhow, Hummer is now three years old and we enjoy his company day by day.

Get a 50 ft lunge line and let the dog run in the open acreage.

We spray apple cider vinegar and it works like a charm.

Just thought I'd give an update about a month later:

He did get better for a while, but now he's returned to his biting ways. He'll be 13 weeks this Saturday and we suspect that he's either in the process of teething or starting to lose his teeth. The bitter apple spray has helped (in 99% of cases ) and whenever we pick up the bottle and show him, he starts barking and runs away. Hopefully in the next month or so he'll slow down with his mouth.
