    Puppy Regression?

Barley has been doing really really well. He is still a super scamp - but is certainly improving. However. I took he and Moby to the river to swim yesterday - which now - he finally loves to do. My problem - he drank 1/2 the river and peed inside the house (twice) - even though I had left them out for at least an hour after we returned. I could not believe it. Then - this morning - he dribbled in the house as well. (He got excited because he stole a tennis ball I was using on my foot.) Is this normal? Is he just the most immature lab on the planet??

if he drank that much water he may just have less control on his bladder right now. i'd make sure to take him out more often and praise, clean the accidents with a proper odour neutralizing product and toss it up to a bad few days.

be alert, he may be giving you a cue that you are missing. my dogs are not used to "asking" to go out as they get out often, so sometimes their cue is vague (or they don't have one) so it's tougher in situations were they need to go out. This was an issue with Penny more, until her bladder became much stronger. But still if she has total freedom all day and needs to go she is likely to just find a room she doesn't use much and go (VS if i keep her on the main floor she is gonna hold it in).

Bubba used to bark when he really had to go out, but recently we've been working on not letting him bark when he's in his cage or x-pen. I think this transferred over to him thinking he can't bark at all. He had two accidents in one day while sitting next to the back door because we weren't watching him closely enough to see that he had to go.

We're going back to paying extra attention and more frequent bathroom breaks.

What goes in must come out and if he drank half the river... It can take additional maturity (he's only a year old right?) to hold it after drinking so much not to mention he's not used to drinking that much. Poor guy couldn't help it. And as someone else pointed out, you may be missing some signs. One of my dogs just sits there looking miserable while the other one does a pee-pee dance (but only when they've gotta go BAD, i.e., in a situation like your pup was in).

Agree with all above. I'd keep an eye peeled but it's likely a combination of a lot of drinking, coupled with excitement, coupled with immaturity. If it still happens with no river trips and no excitement (tennis ball under your foot? LOL, how tantalizing is that? ) then maybe a urine sample to the Vet.

He is still very young and drank a crap load of water. Its has nothing to do with regression at all. I wouldn't put a second thought into it personally, it happens

I wouldn't make a big deal out of it. Bruce was still having minor "accidents" in the house until he was almost 7 months old. Many in the morning at the back door when I was trying to get them outside. A little dribble here and there. He finally our grew it.

I agree with the others. Also, if I remember correctly you've moved fairly recently, yes? That's another change he's probably adjusting to.
